(Editor’s note: This story is an updated version of one that ran last week. The nature of the service has been changed from a memorial service to a funeral service. The location, New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Worship and Family Life Center, remains the same. There will be a viewing from 9-10 a.m. at the church, followed by the closed-casket funeral service at 10 a.m.)
The Kentridge High School community will have a chance to say goodbye to one of its own tomorrow.
A memorial service has been scheduled for Devin Topps, the former Kentridge athletic standout who died Oct. 31 after gunfire outside a house party in Kent. The service will take place 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship Worship and Family Life Center, 19300 108th Ave. S.E., Kent.
David Ankcorn, executive minister of the church, said they are expecting full capacity at the service – about 1,000 people. As Nov. 11 is Veterans Day and school is closed, Ankcorn said they are expecting several hundred students to attend.
Delivering the eulogy will be an aunt of Topps. Ankcorn explained she is a pastor, and will be traveling up from Texas to participate the service. The church’s own pastor, Dr. Leslie D. Braxton, will be officiating.
Ankcorn described the event as a memorial service and worship service.
Onsite parking is limited, but additional offsite parking will be announced on the church’s Web site at www.thenbcf.org, as it is confirmed.
