Green River College instructor Steve Kinholt recently received the 2016 Education Reform Award from the Washington Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges.

The Education Reform Award is presented biannually for innovation in mathematics course design or curriculum development at the precollege or college level.

A 24-year Green River College veteran, Kinholt assisted in the development of the education department and math education courses, revitalized the Math Learning Center, and has consistently modified the course design of his classes to meet the needs of his students.

“[Steve Kinholt] has had a tremendous impact both locally at his college, and throughout the state,” Pete Wildman, president, Washington Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges, said in a press release. “His work has made a particular impact in the advancement and reform of teacher education programs.”

The Washington Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges is a nonprofit educational association established in 1986 to unite mathematics faculty and support mathematics education at community and technical colleges throughout Washington state.
