Harlem Globetrotter guard Blenda Rodriguez had about 500 Park Orchard Elementary students captivated on Feb.17 when he performed some of the team’s signature tricks and signed autographs.
“He was here for over an hour and was so fun and interactive with the kids,” said Trudy Schug, P.E. specialist at Park Orchard.” He hung out with the kids after he gave a speech and presentation, took pictures with them and talked to them. He just made it a real experience for them.”
Rodriguez often visits schools to perform for students and give inspirational speeches.
Many students related to the message put out by Rodriguez.
“The student population at Park Orchard is really diverse and all share different values and dreams,” Schug said. “I think (Rodriguez) represents that and is an inspiration to them.”
School staff is looking to get another speaker similar to Rodriguez for next year.
“Many students don’t have the opportunity to attend a show at the ShowWare Center, so this was a way for them to still get to experience the magic of the Globetrotters,” Schug said. “I’d love to have a Globetrotter again next year.”
