A trustee and past chair of the Highline Community College board, Dan Altmayer of Federal Way, has been elected to serve as the president of the Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges (TACTC).
TACTC is comprised of all the trustees of the 30 two-year college districts in Washington and provides support and coordination for trustees in the areas of education, communication and advocacy. The vision of TACTC is to insure quality, affordable and lifelong educational opportunities for all the people of Washington State.
“Dan’s election as president of TACTC is truly an honor for him and the region, and it reflects his hard work and leadership in the community college system and his commitment to student success,” said Highline’s Board of Trustees chair, Bob Roegner. “We are proud of the recognition Dan has brought to Highline, Federal Way and South King County.”
Altmayer is active in the local community, serving on Board of Directors for the Federal Way Chamber of Commerce, the Advisory Council for Communities in Schools and the Highline Community College Foundation board. He was also awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Campus Impact Award by the Council for Resource Development for his leadership.
Altmayer graduated from Northern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in political science before serving in the U.S. Army until 1992. He continued to serve in both the Washington Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve until 2004, when he retired as a major. He was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
He has been a financial advisor with Edward Jones Investments since 1992 and holds the Accredited Asset Management Specialist (AAMS) designation.
