Entertainment cannot get much more local than the first “Kent’s Got Talent” show coming up 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Kent Senior Activity Center, 600 E. Smith St.

More than a dozen local business people, students and others will display their ability to sing, dance or play an instrument to earn votes from the crowd at the fundraiser for the Kent Downtown Partnership.

Tickets are $5, which includes one token to vote for the best talent in Kent.

Anyone who wants to enter the talent show must pay a $50 entry fee or find a sponsor to support them. Everyone who competes will receive a prize. The competitor list was close to filling up on Jan. 19.

Fans can be rented from Project U(th) for $10 each to cheer on performers.

Kent attorney Mark Albertson is the master of ceremonies and will perform a song, too. Although he plays the part of an established lawyer these days, Albertson actually put himself through college playing in a rock band.

Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke will open the event, although details about what she will do for her talent act have yet to be revealed.

Spencer Roop, the winner of the Kent-Meridian High School Royal Idol contest on Jan. 20, will compete in the show for free as a reward for winning the high school’s talent competition.

Disregarded Entity, a band of certified public accountants from South King County, is the host band and will backup most of the performers who select songs from a playlist.

Other competitors are expected to include a dance group from the Allegro Performing Arts Academy of Kent and a karaoke singer or two from Charley’s on Central restaurant and lounge.

The amount of $1 tokens that are in each participant’s talent box will determine the winner.

For more information about how to register for the contest or to help sponsor the event, call Tom Byrne at 206-772-6000 or e-mail thomasbyrnecpa@gmail.com.
