Issues concerning a major flood-control dam on the Green River will be the topic of discussion at the next Kent Chamber of Commerce lunch meeting, May 6. The public event runs 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Meridian Valley Country Club, 24830 136th Ave S.E.

A panel of speakers will discuss Howard Hanson Dam, one of the Green River’s main flood-control devices in the Kent Valley. The dam was found to have issues with an abutment earlier this year, and that will have an impact on its ability to retain flood water this coming winter.

Speaking at the luncheon will be Kent’s Emergency Manager Dominic Marzano; Jeff Woodward, a representative with the Federal Emergency Management Agency; Seattle District meteorologist Larry Schick; Casondra Brewster with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers; and Steve Bleifuhs, section manager for river and flood plain management from King County.

Lunch is $20, while a soup and salad are $12. Meridian Valley Country Club has a dress code, so attendees are asked to wear business attire.
