Update: King County Sheriff’s detectives report that there appear to be three sets of remains at the scene. The detectives are aware of the case involving three missing Pierce County men who were last seen in December. The three, Jesus Bejar Avila, 25, of Lakewood; Yazmany Quezada Ortiz, 25, of Tacoma, and Christian Alberto Rangel, 19, of University Place, were last seen leaving work Dec. 12 at Lake Union Wholesale Florist, in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. Part of the ongoing investigation will include determining if the remains are the three missing men who were last seen Dec. 13 in Kent.
The Lakewood Police Major Crimes Unit is working with the Sheriff’s Office on the investigation, according to a Lakewood Police media release.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will be working to identify the remains. The Medical Examiner’s Office will also determine the cause and manner of death.
As of Friday, the Medical Examiner’s Office had not released any information about the remains.
Human remains were found Thursday at a nursery in the 26200 block of 65th Avenue South in unincorporated Kent, just west of the West Valley Highway.
Employees from the nursery discovered the remains, according to a King County Sheriff’s Office media release.
Investigators from the King County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit have responded and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the remains.
The remains are not connected to Gary Ridgway, also known as the Green River Killer, according to an e-mail from Sgt. Rodney Chinnick, acting public information officer for the Sheriff’s Office.
