Early election results show U.S. Rep. Adam Smith is winning his bid for re-election in Washington’s 9th Congressional District, which spans from Bellevue and south Seattle down through Renton, Tukwila, Kent, Federal Way and Tacoma.

The incumbent Democratic Congressman is netting about 76.35% of the vote against challenger Doug Basler (R) with 23.48% of votes, according to the King County Elections Office, which will certify final results Nov. 24.

Adam Smith, who grew up in SeaTac, has served in the role as the Washington Congressional District 9 since 1997, holding 12 terms so far. He is the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee and is a founding member of the Medicare for All Caucus. Smith is the longest-serving member of Washington’s congressional delegations.
