A man reportedly crawled through an open window into a Kent home while the family slept and stole a vehicle and two laptops.
Kent Police arrested a man for investigation of burglary and stealing a vehicle after Federal Way Police had stopped the man for speeding near South 344th Street and Highway 18, according to the police report.
Federal Way officers checked the vehicle’s registration and contacted Kent Police about a possible stolen vehicle at around 3:04 a.m. on April 22. When officers went to the East Hill home in the 24200 block of 98th Avenue South, they knocked on the door but nobody answered. An officer walked around the house and saw an open window with the screen taken off and a chair on the ground that would allow someone to reach the window. Police also found a back door unlocked.
Police called in more officers to the house before they went inside to clear the home. While inside, a couple came out of a bedroom where they were sleeping. The husband thought the vehicle was in the driveway. The wife told police their children were sleeping downstairs. In a hurry to get to them, she fell down the stairs. Paramedics transported her to a local hospital for an injured ankle. The children were safe.
The husband reported that the vehicle’s keys were missing from the house.
When police interviewed the accused thief, he admitted that he entered the house through an open window, found the keys to the car hanging in a room and left through a back door.
Man refuses to leave scene
Police arrested a man for investigation of resisting arrest after he allegedly refused to leave a scene where officers were looking into a report of unwanted subjects loitering at about 8:45 p.m. on April 23 near a East Hill McDonald’s and Chevron, 10715 S.E. 240th St.
An officer noted that the area has been a crime hot spot for several years, including recent fights involving weapons and a crowd that gathered around officers dealing with another incident, according to the police report.
Three officers responded to the incident and three suspects were stopped. Meanwhile, a man walked over from the nearby Bryson Square Apartments and told officers he was tired of all the kids and criminal activity he sees from his apartment.
When police asked the man to move along, he reportedly didn’t move and later moved close to one of the suspects reported loitering in the area. An officer arrested the man for obstruction. When the man refused to put his hands behind his back, a short struggle began with two officers before they were able to force the man to the ground and handcuffed him.
While in the back of the patrol vehicle, the man yelled profanities and insults at the officers.

The mother told officers her son became upset because she needed the van and wouldn’t let her son use it, according to the police report. The man threw and broke several items inside the home before he went outside and broke out every window in the van except the windshield.
The son told police his mother made him mad and when he gets mad he does things like this.
Man tries to rob woman
Police arrested a man for investigation of attempted robbery after he allegedly tried to get money from a woman as she walked at about 4:37 a.m. on April 25 near Railroad Avenue North and West Smith Street.
The woman told officers she was walking home from her uncle’s house after work when a vehicle pulled up near her and a man ran over to her and said, “Give me all you got,” according to the police report. She said she believed the man had a gun.
The woman started to back away from the man when she spotted a police vehicle nearby and flagged down the officer. When the officer arrived, the car sped away but left the man behind.
