Local Boy Scout troops will collect and recycle Christmas trees on Saturday for a suggested $5 donation.
Kent residents can drop undecorated trees curbside by 8 a.m., attach the payment inside an envelope, with Boy Scouts clearly marked on the outside, and they will be picked up by 4 p.m.
Tinseled or flocked trees will not be accepted.
Trees also can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Service Club Ballfields, 14608 SE 288th St. Scouts will be on hand to unload the trees and accept donations.
Money earned from the drive supports year-round scouting adventures, including troop activities, camps and awards.
According to Victoria Andrews, Kent Parks special programs manager, the Christmas Tree Drive also keeps trees out of landfills.
“Not only that, the recycled trees provide a stockpile of chips for our department to mulch new plants and maintain trails,” Andrews said. “It’s a win-win for the scouts, the city and the environment.”

Free curbside pickup of Christmas trees also is available for Kent residential garbage customers on their regular collection day between Jan. 7-11. Trees must be stripped of all ornamentation. Flocked trees will not be accepted. Trees taller than five feet must be cut into three foot sections and bundled with twine.
