The city of Kent has closed 148th Avenue SE from SE 256th Street to SE 249th Street due to erosion of the roadway.
The Public Works Department announced the closure Thursday morning, Dec. 29.
Repairs will be scheduled for next week, according to the city. Detour signs and traffic control will be in place. The reopening date remains to be determined.
Recent heavy rains caused the erosion. The street has flooded for years due to overflow from the nearby Big Soos Creek. SE 256th Street also often floods near 148th Avenue SE.
The city’s Public Works Department has proposals to reduce the flooding along 148th Avenue SE, but no timeline or funding for the work.
