Things took a change for the worse for a man after a Kent Police officer attempted to pull him over for having expired license plate tabs.

The officer saw the Isuzu Rodeo SUV westbound on West Smith Street near 64th Avenue South at about 4:03 p.m. on May 3, according to the police report.

The driver pulled over near the driveway of the Bonel Mobile Manor but then quickly backed up at a high rate of speed into the northbound lanes of 64th Avenue South. The man drove in reverse at about 30 to 35 mph before he hit a curb on the east side of the street, lost control, blew out the left front tire and the SUV came to a rest in the middle of the street.

Several pedestrians and a bicyclist were in the area but nobody was injured. The pursuit lasted less than a minute and covered about four blocks.

Police found a pistol on the floor in front of the right front passenger seat. The man also had a glass pipe in his pocket that he told officers he used to smoke meth. Police acquired a search warrant for the SUV and found six .22-caliber bullets, one 12-gauge shotgun round, two plastic baggies with white substance left on them and one digital scale. The officer noted it’s the type of scale used by buyers or sellers of drugs.

Officers arrested the man for investigation of eluding a police vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, driving while license suspended, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to use an ignition locking device. The man was convicted in 2o15 of attempting to elude a police vehicle and banned from possessing a firearm for the felony conviction.

The man told an officer it was stupid to try to run from police but he did it because of the gun in the vehicle.

Woman punches sister, niece

Police arrested a woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault and third-degree malicious mischief after she allegedly punched her sister and niece and broke a door during a dispute at about 12:14 a.m. on May 1 at a house in the 25300 block of 31st Avenue South.

When officers arrived at the house they found the woman standing outside near a vehicle with a black chair leg in her hand. She told officers her sister had locked her out of her house because she was Muslim, according to the police report.

The sisters reportedly got in an argument about religion and ended up getting in a fight. The woman’s niece tried to stop the struggle. The woman then kicked a door and broke the handle on it before she went outside.

Man speeds on motorcycle

Officers arrested a man for investigation of reckless driving on his motorcycle after he reportedly sped up to 70 mph in a 40 mph zone.

An officer saw the red motorcycle eastbound in the 9200 block of Canyon Drive at about 8:12 a.m. on May 2 and started to pursue the motorcyclist, according to the police report.

The motorcyclist went south on 97th Place South and eventually south on 104th Avenue Southeast. A second police vehicle joined the chase before the motorcyclist stopped in the Home Depot parking lot, 26120 104th Ave. S.E.

The man declined to talk to police about the incident.

Man caught with drug item

Police arrested a man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia after officers responded to a call about a suspicious subject knocking on the door of a home at about 3:41 a.m. on May 3 in the 9400 block of South 240th Street.

The resident of the home called 911 because he didn’t know the man and the man refused to leave the property, according to the police report.

Officers found the man standing on a sidewalk near the home. The officer noted the man appeared to be high or intoxicated. The man held a doormat in his hand taken from the resident’s home. Police found a glass pipe on the man. The man had a warrant out of Seattle for third-degree theft.

The man told police he had property he needed to return to the home.
