The Kent Education Association, the union that represents the teachers of the Kent School District, is hosting a rally this weekend in support of the Kent School District Levy, which is on the Feb. 9 ballot.
The rally is scheduled to begin with supporters waving signs at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mill Creek Middle School and then moving inside at noon for a rally featuring music and speakers. The Bella Voce Choir of the Rainier Youth Chorus, as well as KEA member, Golden Apple winner and recording artist Darren Motamedy, are scheduled to perform.
The Kent School District is running two levy votes on the Feb. 9 ballot: the maintenance-and-operations levy, which pays for 20 percent of the district’s budget, and a technology levy, which replaces the district’s current tech. levy and will allow Kent to maintain student and teacher computers as well as classroom technology.
According to the district, the two levies are replacements of the current levies and are designed to not increase taxes.
Mill Creek Middle School is located at 620 N. Central Ave. The rally is open to the public.
