Kent firefighters extinguish three separate brush fires on West Hill

Fire breaks out early Friday morning, July 12 in wooded area west of Interstate 5

Firefighters extinguished three separate brush fires in the same Kent wooded area on Friday, July 12 in the 25900 block of 27th Place South on the West Hill, just west of Interstate 5.

Firefighters were dispatched at about 5:16 a.m., according to an email from Puget Sound Fire spokesperson Pat Pawlak. South King Fire & Rescue assisted on the call. It took about three hours to extinguish the fire and hot spots.

With difficulty to access the fires, firefighters had to extend over 700 feet of hose, Pawlak said. One of the fires was about 100 feet by 25 feet while the other two were smaller.

Four engines and one battalion chief responded to the incident, Pawlak said. Thirteen fire department personnel were used.

“Puget Sound Fire would also like to recognize and thank the Kent Police Department for their assistance at this fire,” Pawlak said. “They used their drone to provide us an aerial view of the fire location.”

A cause of the fire is undetermined, Pawlak said.

Pawlak confirmed that there are some homeless camps in the area.
