Garbage, recycling and yard waste service returns to normal Thursday in Kent as Republic Services drivers are back on the job after one day of picketing to support striking drivers in Ohio.
“Republic Services is on schedule today (Thursday), collecting garbage, recycling and yard waste in the Puget Sound,” said Anne Laughlin, Republic Services spokeswoman, in a Thursday email. “Any customers impacted yesterday (Wednesday) may put up to double the load out on their next regularly scheduled collection day.”
The regular drivers returned to work, Laughlin said.
Teamsters drivers walked off the job Wednesday as the local unions wanted to show support for the striking drivers in Youngstown, Ohio in their labor dispute with Republic Services.
Picket lines were set up Wednesday at the company’s facilities in Seattle, Lynnwood, and Kent/SeaTac.
“There are no more picketers at the Kent facility,” said Paul Zilly, spokesman for Tukwila-based Teamsters Local 117, in a Thursday email. “Drivers are back at work. Picketing is still taking place at 3rd and Lander (in Seattle).”
