Kent girl, 12, dies trying to help her mother during seizure in car

Miranda Bhattacharyya ’always put the well-being of others before herself,’ family says

When her mother suffered a seizure driving along Southeast 208th Street in Kent, 12-year-old Miranda Bhattacharyya quickly jumped out of the car to get help from a relative driving the vehicle in front of them.

While Miranda ran around in front of the car, the mother ended up going forward, hitting her daughter and pinned the girl between the two vehicles, according to Kent Police. Officers who arrived at the 6:25 p.m. Oct. 3 accident near Southeast 208th Street and 108th Avenue Southeast began CPR on the Kent girl, but she died at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries in what officers described as a “incredibly difficult scene.”

“Miranda rushed to help her mother who fell unconscious, while on a road,” according to a gofundme.com post by Natalya Shatrova, of Renton. “In her attempt, an unpredictable accident happened and we have tragically lost her due to an unimaginable car accident and the pain of it all is unreal.”

A service and burial was on Oct. 11 for Miranda.

“Miranda was one of the kindest and purest human beings you could ever meet,” according to friends and relatives. “She had a heart of gold and soul as sweet as sugar. To call her an angel would be an understatement.”

The gofundme.com account had raised $24,669, as of Oct. 13.

“Miranda had many people around who cherished her with the utmost love, her legacy resides within as we continue to live on for her,” according to gofundme post. “All her family members and her friends are in shock of this sudden loss. We appreciate your prayers and donations during this difficult time.”

Relatives said Miranda’s passion for love radiated.

“She was just a 12 year-old with the whole life ahead of her,” according to the post. “Just like any other child of her age, some of her favorite activities were; TikTok, Roblox, Avatar the last Air-bender and playing with Spot (her dog). She also enjoyed making arts and crafts as well as cooking and baking.”

Miranda is survived by her parents, Uttaran and Maria Bhattacharyya. Her grandparents, Rupayan and Rajashree Bhattacharyya and Sergey and Nadezhda Asiryan. Her uncles and aunts, Clint and Emma Hooper, Shiv Chakraborty and Rupa Bhattacharyya. Her cousins Lucina Hooper, Tiana Hooper, Clint (Many) Hooper and Yarra Chakraborty.

“Miranda was dedicated to becoming an architect and had an innate flare for interior design,” according to her obituary. “She was unwaveringly devoted to her loved ones and always put the well-being of others before herself. The void her absence leaves will never be filled.”
