Firefighters from Mountain View Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire about 1 p.m. today near 176th Avenue South East between Covington and Kent.
The fire was put out and there were no injuries.
According to District 44 spokesman Tim Perciful, the homeowner was doing yard work and burning some grass when a gust of wind caught a tree on fire next to the house. The homeowner called 911 as flames shot up the side of the house.
The homeowner sprayed the fire with a hose prior to the firefighters arriving.
“We got there and sprayed water on the outside of the chimney,” Perciful said.
The man’s daughter was planning a wedding next week. Perciful said the firefighters were able to get the homeowner’s dog and wedding dress safely out of the home.
