Representatives from the Muslim, Christian and Jewish community will participate in a Roles of Religions in Combating Violence in the Community interfaith seminar on Saturday, Feb. 9 in Kent.
The seminar will run from 4-6 p.m. at the Kent Senior Activity Center, 600 E. Smith St.
The Islamic Center of Kent is hosting the seminar. Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke will serve as the event chair.
Speakers at the seminar include Sheikh Mohamad Joban, Imam, of Masjid Ar-Rahmah (MAPS) of Redmond; Pastor Dave Johnson, of Midway Community Covenant Church of Des Moines; and Rabbi Jim Mirel, of Temple B’nai Torah of Bellevue.
The main goals of this seminar are to highlight the religious influence on combating the violence in the community; to explain more about the mentioned religions and remove any misunderstanding, or stereotyped perception about any particular religion or its followers, according to a media release from the Islamic Center.
The event will provide an opportunity to promote better understanding and stand together against violence as well as an opportunity to explain individual religious positions and roles it can play in promoting a violence free harmonious society in the community and throughout the country.
