Kent man, 21, killed in West Meeker Street parking lot shooting

Suspect fired five to 12 shots before fleeing; shooter and victim reportedly knew each other

A 21-year-old Kent man died after being shot just after 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 in a parking lot in the 1500 block of West Meeker Street.

Officers responded after numerous 911 callers reported hearing between five to 12 gunshots and saw a man on the ground in a parking lot, according to a Nov. 22 Kent Police news release.

Officers arrived on scene and administered lifesaving medical aid to the man, who had several apparent gunshot wounds, according to police. Puget Sound Fire firefighters arrived shortly after and took over efforts to save the man before medics transported him to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where the man died while in surgery.

Initial information from witnesses is that the suspect fled in a vehicle after shooting the man several times, according to police. There is also indication that the shooter and victim interacted just prior to the shooting and are known to each other.

Detectives were called in to conduct the investigation. They have begun extensive examination of the crime scene, interviews with multiple witnesses and canvassing for available video in the area.

Kent Police are asking that anyone who has information related to this incident call the Tip Line 253-856-5808, or email KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov.

Witnesses told police a person ran up to the vehicle while it was stopped at a traffic light and fired multiple times into the vehicle before fleeing. It was not a random incident, according to police. The suspect remains at large.
