A 64-year-old Kent man died when a SUV collided with his semi truck that ended up down an embankment at Interstate 5 and I-405 Monday, Aug. 23 in Tukwila.
Steven L. Garner died at the scene of the 11:56 a.m. crash, according to the Washington State Patrol.
A 49-year-old Edmonds woman was driving a BMW SUV merging from southbound I-405 onto southbound I-5. Garner was driving southbound I-5 and approaching I-405. The BMW driver changed lanes into lane 2 and struck the semi.
The semi then hit the right guardrail and came to rest down an embankment on its side, according to the State Patrol. The BMW came to rest on the right shoulder. Paramedics transported the woman, who was alone in the SUV, to St. Francis Hospital in Federal Way.
The road was blocked for seven hours and 45 minutes.
The State Patrol ruled an improper lane change by the BMW driver as the cause of the crash. Drugs or alcohol were not involved in the crash.
