For the Reporter
A Kent man is celebrating after winning $50,000 playing Powerball on Saturday, March 10. He purchased his winning ticket earlier that morning from the 7-Eleven, 680 Strander Blvd.
The winner told Lottery officials that when he first realized he won, he didn’t want to tell anyone but his wife until they could verify the numbers. They were able to confirm the numbers late Sunday night.
“I lost my mother two years ago. I think my mom was looking out for me with this win,” said the man.
He and his wife, who wish to remain anonymous, are employees of the U.S. Postal Service and have been married for more than 14 years. The couple met during a trip to Minnesota during New Year’s, and after falling in love, she moved to Kent.
The couple plan to spend their winnings on a trip to Thailand. They want to explore different cities and are excited to ride elephants.
Proceeds from Washington’s Lottery benefit the Washington Opportunity Pathways Account, providing grants to college students statewide. To learn more about Washington’s Lottery, its beneficiaries and to review all up-to-date winning numbers, visit walottery.com.
