A 40-year-old Kent man died when his semi-truck collided with another vehicle, crashed and burned on Dec. 8 along Interstate 5, just south of Tumwater.

Shamsher Sohi died at the scene, according to the Washington State Patrol. He was identified by the Thurston County Coroner’s Office.

Just before 9 a.m. Dec. 8, Sohi was traveling northbound on I-5 in the middle lane near the 93rd Avenue Southwest exit when his 2002 Freightliner semi rear-ended a 2007 Honda CR-V, according to the State Patrol.

The Honda was forced off the road to the right where it struck a light pole and came to rest on the right shoulder. The semi also continued off the road to the right and struck several trees.

Other drivers stopped and attempted to help Sohi, who was still in the driver’s seat. The semi then caught fire and flames quickly overtook the cab.

Both occupants of the Honda were treated at the scene for minor injuries and released.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the State Patrol.
