A 19-year-old Kent man suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car on Friday evening in the 15200 block of Southeast 272nd Street, also known as Kent Kangley Road.
Just moments before the 6:30 p.m. collision, the man was walking along Southeast 272nd Street when he lost control of a skateboard that he had with him, according to a Kent Police media release sent out on Tuesday. The man leaned into the street to retrieve the board and into the path of a vehicle driven by a 51-year-old Covington man.
The impact with the vehicle knocked the man to the ground. Paramedics transported the man to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to the police report.
The driver was shaken but not injured.
Police interviewed several commuters who witnessed the accident near Lake Meridian Park. There is no evidence that speed or impairment contributed to the collision.
As of Tuesday morning, Kent Police did not have an update about the man’s condition and had not released his name.
