The Kent Police Department reported a 63-year-old Kent man was shot Tuesday, March 30, at 10:08 p.m. in the 23300 block of 61st Ave South in Kent.

According to a release from Lt. Pat Lowery, spokesman for the Kent Police Department, officers were  called to the Lakes neighborhood for a report of an illegal discharge of a weapon in the area. Two officers arrived within minutes, but were initially unsuccessful in locating the source of the gunshots. Additional calls to 911 brought the officers to the Bayview Townhomes where they found a man with a gun.

Lowery stated in the release preliminary reports indicate when confronted, the man pointed the weapon at officers, at which time he was shot. There is no word on the condition of the man. Neither officer was injured.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center by paramedics.

Both officers, a 29 year old three year veteran and a 27 year old one year veteran, have been placed on administrative leave according to Lowery, a routine practice in these types of incidents.

Renton police officers assisted in the investigation and will lead the  the inquiry as a part of a regional investigative agreement.
