A Kent man believed he had a way to make some quick cash when he reportedly stole a woman’s purse from a vehicle and the next day tried to get her to pay him to return the purse.
Kent officers arrested the man for investigation of possession of stolen property after the woman’s boyfriend met the man at about 6:11 p.m. April 4 at Wilson Playfields, 13028 SE 251st St., saw him with the purse and then tackled the man and handcuffed him, according to the police report.
The police received multiple 911 calls about a man trying to steal a purse. When officers showed up at the park, they found someone had handcuffed the man and people were on top of the man to hold him down.
The man who reportedly tried to get cash for the return of the purse declined to talk to police.
The purse had apparently been stolen from the boyfriend’s vehicle the prior night at the park. The woman didn’t realize until the next day that her purse was missing. She then started to receive phone calls and text messages from a man who said he had her purse and would return it to her for a price.
Eventually, the man agreed to meet the woman’s boyfriend after he said he would pay the man for the purse.
