Kent Police Blotter: April 11-24

A sampling of Kent Police incidents April 11-24:

April 11

Shooting: 5:42 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 21400 block of 130th Avenue SE. The shooter was the victim in this incident. The suspect confronted the victim who was sitting in his vehicle, opened the passenger side door, snatched the keys to the vehicle and yelled at the victim. The victim began to retreat out of his vehicle and away from the suspect until he had nowhere to go and announced he was going to fire a warning shot to stop the suspect. The victim fired into the ground, and the round ricocheted striking the suspect and ending the incident.

Robbery: 10:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to a potential robbery at the East Hill market, 23847 108th Ave. SE, associated with a Honda CRV. Upon arrival, they located a Honda CRV that quickly left the parking lot. Officers located the vehicle at the Plant Fitness down the street. They detained the subjects in the vehicle. One of the subjects contacted was the victim who admitted being robbed at gunpoint of his money while trying to purchase fentanyl pills. The suspect was arrested, and officers located an AK type pistol with approximately 345 fentanyl pills.

April 13

Carjacking: 12:58 a.m., officers were dispatched to a carjacking that occurred in the 12500 block of SE 276th Place. The victim had parked her vehicle at the location with the intent of going to her boyfriend’s house. As she was getting out of her vehicle, she was confronted by the suspect who pulled out a gun and ordered her to give him the keys. The suspect fled the scene in her vehicle. On April 14, the vehicle was located at the Medic 1 Office, 20811 84th Ave. S. A witness had seen two males within the vehicle as they were removing items. Upon the officers’ arrival, the vehicle was unoccupied.

April 14

Gunshot victim: 11:01 p.m., officers were dispatched to an illegal discharge at the James Street and Lincoln Avenue Park and Ride. A victim had been shot and was later transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Witnesses at the scene described hearing gunshots and a vehicle leaving the area.

Woman shot: 11:26 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at in the 300 block of Central Avenue S. They located the victim who had been shot and medics later transported her to Harborview Medical Center.

April 16

Shots fired: 8:52 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at the 7-Eleven, 511 Central Ave. S. Officers were unable to locate a suspect or victim. An employee at the store stated a male who appeared to be bleeding from his hand asked him to call 911 because he had been assaulted but did not remain on scene. Officers located witnesses who heard the gunshots and located numerous bullet casings on the west side of the business.

DUI driver: 10:47 p.m., officers were on the way to a different call when a reckless car blew a red light at 104th Avenue SE and SE 256th Street in front of them. They turned around to chase and watched as the car was all over the road, taking out street signs, going into oncoming traffic as it went west down Canyon Road. After sideswiping a car in the oncoming lane, the suspect got high-centered on the cement C-curbing and ground to a halt. The suspect was arrested for investigation of DUI and reckless driving.

April 19

Man shot: 9:16 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Railroad Avenue South for illegal discharge. Several gunshots were heard along with a dispute. A witness saw a male shot, flee the area, and get into a vehicle. Five casings were located in the area of East Russell and Bridges. No victims were located. On April 19, at 10:43 p.m., officers went back to canvass Bridges and spoke with a male who said his girlfriend had been shot there on April 14. She and another male had been behind the 7-Eleven, 511 Central Ave. S., when a white, 4-door Lexus passed them and then turned around. She then heard gunshots and felt pain in her leg. She did not call 911 at the time of the shooting. Officers located a male that matched the description the female gave. The male confirmed he was the other victim of the shooting. There was an illegal discharge call on April 14 called in and it was cleared unfounded after area check.

April 20

Sleeping man shot: 1 a.m., officers were dispatched to area of Springwood Park, 12700 SE 274th St., for five gunshots heard. A male was inside his house sleeping and awoke to being struck by a bullet to the leg. Six 9mm casings were located out in front of the house. Four bullet holes were found into the house. One of the bullets traveled through the victim residence and into an apartment at Birch Creek, 1311 SE 274th St. No one at Birch Creek was injured.

Stolen vehicles: 6:07 p.m., officers responded to a vehicle theft from the YMCA, 10828 SE 248th St., which was GPS tracked to the Highland Green Apartments, 10105 SE 236th St. It was abandoned and the suspect fled in another stolen box truck. In an effort to flee from the police, the box truck collided with six civilian vehicles. Officers did not attempt to pursue as it did not meet pursuit criteria. One civilian had minor injuries from the collision. The box truck was later located in the 22200 block of 105th Avenue SE. A red Subaru was seen near the truck and two suspects were seen transferring items from the box truck to the Subaru. The Subaru recklessly drove from the area once police arrived. The driver of the Subaru was recognized as having prior involvements where it fled from police and was involved in catalytic converter thefts. All stolen vehicles were recovered, including one found near Highland Green after reviewing a neighbor’s video. The video showed the box truck towing a stolen F350 into the area of Highland Green.

April 21

Street robbery: 2:27 a.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery near the Lowe’s store, 24050 Pacific Highway S. The victim was robbed of his wallet and cellphone by five subjects, one of which was armed with a handgun. The incident occurred after the victim got off the bus at the intersection of South 240th Street and Pacific Highway S. He walked across the street towards Lowe’s when he was confronted by the suspects.

April 22

Chevron shooting: 2:44 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting that occurred at the Chevron, 27121 Military Road S. No one was hit, but a vehicle and the building were damaged. An employee stated a subject had his card declined at the pump and came into the store to pay for gas. The employee made a joke about the subject being “broke” and the subject became upset. After the subject paid for gas, the employee followed the subject out of the store to go on a break. The subject pumped his gas, began to drive out of the parking lot but stopped prior to pulling out onto the road. The subject got out of his vehicle and began to fire rounds in the direction of the employee.

Shots fired at apartment: 1:44 p.m., an unknown male fired several .223 rounds into rear slider of an apartment at Walnut Park. 24817 112th Ave. SE. No one was inside the apartment at the time.

Stabbing along trail: 8 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Valley Medical Center in Renton regarding a victim of a stabbing. The victim was riding his bike on a trail near LA Fitness when he encountered an unknown male who began to verbally harass him. The victim stopped and began to speak to the male. The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the stomach and the back.

Parking lot shooting: 10:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at the Groves Apartments, 10811 SE 239th Place. Multiple people called stating they heard numerous gunshots coming from the area and vehicles had fled the scene. Officers located a couple females who claimed to be the target of the shooting and were in their apartment. No damage to the building was found, but casings were found in the parking lot. Shortly thereafter, one of the believed involved vehicles in the shooting was located unoccupied in the downtown area that had multiple bullet holes in it. The vehicle was impounded.

April 23

Man shot in face: 10:19 p.m., officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run collision in the 9900 block of South 244th St. They located a vehicle that crashed into multiple parked vehicles in the area. The driver of the vehicle fled on foot and was not located. Officers found a male in the backseat who had significant trauma to his face. Traffic was requested but found the injuries could not have been sustained from the crash. A significant amount of fentanyl pills were found in the injured person’s possession. After the injured person was transported to the hospital, officers were informed that person actually had been shot in the face sustaining critical injuries.

April 24

Shots fired at woman: 9:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at the Vibe Apartments, 25220 109th Pl. SE. The female victim had been shot at by her boyfriend. The two were in a dating relationship for around six years, the male half had not returned the female’s phone calls, so she decided to go to his apartment. When she arrived, they got into an argument and she heard a female voice within the apartment. The male half ended up pulling out a gun and firing one round towards her as she was standing outside.
