Kent Police Blotter: April 11-24

A sampling of Kent Police incidents April 11-24:

April 11

Gun on lap: 10:46 p.m., Kent officers went to a welfare check at the Central Flats Apartments, 1024 Central Ave. N. A male was passed out in a running vehicle at that location with a firearm sitting in his lap. The driver had a felony warrant for his arrest for second-degree assault and unlawful possession of a firearm. The subject was arrested and transported to the King County jail where he was booked for his confirmed warrant.

Attempted robbery: 11:07 p.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery at the Webster Court Apartments, 309 Fifth Ave. S. The victim was in the smoking area behind the apartment building when the suspect approached him armed with a handgun. The suspect demanded money, but the victim declined and fought back with a broomstick. The suspect fought with the victim but eventually gave up and ran away. A K-9 track was conducted with negative results.

April 12

Carjacking, kidnap: 7:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to a carjacking and kidnap that began near the Chevron, 26220 116th Ave. SE. The victim was at this location around 2 a.m. working on his vehicle when four armed suspects approached and assaulted him. The man was pistol whipped, his keys and wallet were taken, and he was placed in the trunk of another vehicle. The suspects talked about shooting him and drove away from the area. The man was able to escape out of the trunk. The man stated he knew one of the suspects.

April 13

Vehicular assault: 9:11 a.m., a vehicle was traveling westbound on South 259th Street when it left the roadway on the right side, over-corrected, then left the roadway on the left side. This caused his vehicle to vault into the side of the “A” building at Madison on the River Apartments, 8721 S. 259th St. The passenger received a broken femur and a possible broken pelvis. The driver was booked into King County jail for vehicular assault.

April 15

Shots fired: 4:27 a.m., officers responded to a possible shooting inside a house in the 12600 block of SE 214th St., where a male had shot a gun inside the house with 15-plus others inside. Family took the gun away from the male and the reporting party left and went around the corner to call 911. The family was uncooperative and insisted nothing happened. No victims were there but the male was seen shooting a shotgun into the ground in the backyard, and casings were found in the street in front of the house.

Kent Station shooting: 9:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting that occurred near Sees Candies at Kent Station. The suspect vehicle was speeding through the parking lot and shooting at an unknown subject(s). About an hour and half later, two subjects suffering from gunshot wounds were dropped off at Valley Medical Center in Renton. The subjects were interviewed but it is unknown if they were injured because of this incident.

April 16

Runaway found: 10:57 p.m., officers were doing an area check in the surrounding neighborhood of a runaway. As an officer was approaching South 262nd Street he saw a vehicle which appeared to be a blocking disabled and so he initiated contact to conduct a welfare check. He noticed the driver was acting strange and a leg was sticking out from under clothing in the passenger seat. It turned out the female was the 13-year-old runaway, and the driver was a 35-year-old with no relation. She appeared to be under the influence and the male was detained. The female was taken to Seattle Children’s Hospital in Seattle.

April 17

Reckless endangerment: 7:20 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunshots inside the Central Flats Apartments, 1024 Central Ave. N. No victims were reported. A short time later there was a report of a stolen car from Central Flats. The reporting party confessed that he had fired several shots into the air as his girlfriend’s car was being stolen. The gun was taken as evidence and he was charged with reckless endangerment.

Gunshot wound: 7:58 a.m., responded to an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the thigh in the 10500 block of SE 230th Pl. The female victim was attended to by Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and transported for treatment. She had used a 3D printed gun. She also had several felony warrants.

April 18

Shots fired at car prowler: 5:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to an illegal discharge at the Ramada hotel, 22318 84th Ave. S. The subject caught a vehicle prowler breaking into his vehicle. The subject used a 9mm handgun to move the vehicle prowler along, but it did not appear anyone was hit by the shots.

Dollar Tree shooting: 7:59 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting within the Dollar Tree parking lot, 23406 Pacific Highway South. A female had been hit with gunfire and was down on the pavement. Those involved with the incident, picked up the female, put her in a vehicle and sped away northbound on Pacific Highway South. No victims or suspects have been identified.

April 20

Robbery: 4:01 a.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery in the parking lot of 1110 W. Meeker St. The victim was getting gas when the two suspects abruptly walked up and robbed him at gunpoint. They took his money and car keys but threw the car keys across the parking lot and fled on foot.

April 21

Assault, stolen vehicle: 11:49 p.m., officers were dispatched to a threat with a weapon call in the 10800 block of SE 200th St. The victim had given a female a ride home and the female “pulled a gun” on her. The victim ran from the vehicle to hide and the suspect got into a vehicle and fled. Officers conducted a high-risk stop. The stolen vehicle was occupied by the suspect and a male driver. Both the suspect and the driver were taken into custody and transported to King County jail. The suspect was booked for second-degree assault and the driver was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Asleep in car with a gun: 1:18 a.m., officers were dispatched to a welfare check at Atrium on James Apartments, 6248 S. 242nd Pl. A male driver was passed out in a running car blocking the entrance off 64th Avenue South. The sole occupant/driver had a gun on his lap and his hand was on the gun. Officer attempted numerous PA’s in an attempt to wake the driver. There was no response. Officers pinned the vehicle from the back, which jostled the vehicle, but still no movement from the driver. After other less lethal and verbal attempts were made, there was no response. Officers then used a 40mm launcher to break the front driver’s side window. The window was broken and still no response from the driver. The gun was safely retrieved. The driver was then physically woken up and detained. The driver was arrested for DUI and a weapons violation.

Knife threat at hotel: 9:12 p.m., officers responded to a threat with a weapon at Quality Inn, 1711 W. Meeker St. The suspect had threatened two employees with a knife as they confronted him about stealing clothing from the laundry room. The suspect also had a warrant for felony harassment. He was booked into King County jail.

April 22

Gunshot wound: 3:34 a.m., an officer was dispatched to Valley Medical Center in Renton due to a patient who had a gunshot wound. The victim had been attending illegal street races and watching a specific vehicle drifting in the parking lot. The vehicle ended up striking the vehicle the victim was in and the driver got out with a gun. The driver randomly started firing the handgun and hit the victim in the back near his shoulder blade.

Robbery arrests: 9:04 p.m., officers responded to a robbery case involving three chronic juvenile offenders. When the same suspects jumped more victims on April 23, they were quickly taken into custody. All were booked into the appropriate King County jail (two to juvenile and one to adult jail). This group has been a regular problem in the Central Avenue North area.

James Street collision: 9:04 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop with a black Honda sedan with no headlights at 100th Avenue SE and South 240th St. The vehicle immediately fled westbound on S. 240th and officers did not pursue. The vehicle was last seen going down S. 240th at a high rate of speed crossing Central Avenue S. At approximately 9:07 p.m., officer located a collision at West James Street and Fourth Avenue N. The Honda had collided with a pickup in the intersection and became stuck on top of a power pole on the northwest corner of the intersection. The vehicle was about 1 inch above a live and damaged 120K powerline. The driver was trapped in the vehicle. Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority and Medic 1 responded quickly and extracted the male for transport to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. It appeared there was a second subject in the Honda based on blood on the passenger seat airbags and witnesses saying a subject fled the collision scene.

Domestic violence attack: 11:46 p.m., officers responded to a domestic violence incident where the victim was strangled by her boyfriend. The male suspect was reluctant to meet officers, but he was arrested without incident.

April 23

Domestic violence assault: 3:03 a.m., officers responded to a domestic violence second-degree assault case. The victim was able to flee the residence. Probable cause for felony harassment and second-degree assault by strangulation was developed, and the suspect was reportedly armed with a handgun. Officers arrested and booked the suspect.

Robbery, carjacking: 1:31 p.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery/carjacking within the 5th Ave Apartments, 731 Fifth Ave. S. The victim was a locksmith and was at the apartment complex to make a duplicate key for the female suspect who paid cash for his work. When the victim was making sure the new key worked, the suspect pulled out a gun, robbed him of his keys, phone and work vehicle.

April 24

Shots fired at apartment: 9:08 a.m., officers responded to the Midtown 64 Apartments, 24615 64th Ave. S., regarding a male who had fired several rounds through his apartment window into a neighboring window. The suspect’s apartment was surrounded, and he came out shortly after announcements were made by officers. The suspect was booked into the King County jail.
