Incidents include embezzlement, carjackings, road rage, stolen vehicle pursuits

A sampling of Kent Police incidents Aug. 10 to 26:

Aug. 10

Multiple shots fired: An officer responded to a report of multiple bullets fired into a residence in the 25000 block of 34th Avenue S. No injuries were reported in the occupied house, but 18 casings, both 9mm and 7.62mm, were found outside. The residents were unsure why they may have been targeted.

Aug. 12

Subway attempted robbery: An attempted robbery occurred at Subway, 10615 SE 240th St. A white male suspect entered the store and demanded that the employee open the register and give him the money. The employee refused, and the suspect left on foot. No weapons were seen or implied.

Wires stolen: 9:38 a.m., patrol responded to the Green River Natural Resource Area at 21600 64th Ave. S., regarding a burglary. Upon arrival, an officer spoke with a city employee who reported that several city of Kent power boxes had been damaged and wires stolen. A PSE box had also been damaged and stripped. The estimated cost of damages and theft was over $100,000.

Tanning store attempted robbery: 5:59 p.m., patrol responded to Seattle Sun Tan, 13000 SE Kent Kangley Road, regarding an attempted robbery. A masked suspect entered the store, declared a theft and demanded cash. The clerk informed the suspect that they did not accept cash, which confused the suspect, leading them to leave empty-handed.

Fire response: 9:36 p.m., patrol responded to a fire at an abandoned building at 100 Naden Ave. S. This was the second structure fire at this address, where it had been reported that several transients were using the building. Patrol contacted transients in the area, but no arrests were made.

Aug. 13

Embezzlement: An officer took a high-dollar embezzlement case where a company’s controller had used a business credit card for personal purchases. Over the past 14 months, more than $335,000 in unauthorized charges, including international flights, had been discovered.

Aug. 14

Shot in leg: Units were dispatched to 3517 S. 239th St for reports of a male shot during a home invasion. Units quickly arrived and provided aid to a 17-year-old victim with a single gunshot wound to the leg. The victim stated that the shooting was over a dispute regarding a female and not a home invasion as initially reported. The suspect fled on foot. No other individuals were found at the scene. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle in stable condition.

Aug. 15

Carjacking: 3 a.m., an officer was dispatched to a recent carjacking near the Island Park Apartments, 23529 60th Ave. S. The victim was confronted by multiple individuals at gunpoint, and his vehicle and phone were taken. The victim’s phone had a tracking feature, and an air tag was hidden in the car. Renton Police located the vehicle through the tracking devices and initiated a short pursuit before terminating. Tukwila Police later found the vehicle unoccupied, and it was impounded.

Stolen vehicle pursuit: 8:50 p.m., an officer located an occupied stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Ramada Inn, 22318 84th Ave. S. After additional officers arrived, the driver attempted to flee, hitting multiple patrol cars and an unoccupied civilian vehicle. The vehicle was eventually pinned, and the driver fled on foot into the hotel. The suspect pushed past a resident, ran through her room, and jumped out of a window. The suspect was apprehended in the parking lot and booked for a state Department of Corrections warrant and multiple charges.

Pipe bombs found: An officer served a search warrant on a vehicle, assisted by two other officers. During the search, they found a firearm and possible pipe bombs. The Port of Seattle Bomb Squad and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were contacted. The suspect had drugs, prior felony convictions, a stolen firearm, and body armor in the vehicle. The pipe bombs were determined to be above the legal explosive level for homemade fireworks. The case was referred to the ATF.

Aug. 16

Road rage: Officers responded to a report of road rage and threats with a weapon at 104th Ave/248th St. The suspect vehicle was located, and the suspect led officers on a slow-speed pursuit back to the initial location. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. The investigation revealed probable cause second-degree assault and that the suspect had prior felony convictions. There was also a no-contact order in place between the suspect and his 7-year-old son. The suspect’s mother and son arrived at the scene, providing further evidence of the violation of the order.

Firearm brandished: 10:51 p.m., an officer was at 24300 Pacific Highway taking an injury accident report when they were notified of an individual brandishing a firearm at Lowe’s/Dick’s parking lot. Several Kent officers responded and found an unsanctioned street racing event. Probable cause for felony harassment was established, but the suspect was not located. The parking lot was cleared.

Stabbing: 2:14 a.m., officers were dispatched to Ishtar Restaurant, 421 Central Ave. S., for a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers found the victim with a laceration to his left forearm and a severe laceration to his left hand. The investigation revealed that the victim was attacked by an unknown male demanding his “torch tip.” The suspect, armed with a machete, struck the victim, and then fled on a bicycle. An area search for the suspect yielded no results.

Aug. 17

Shots hit vehicle: 11:47 a.m., officers were dispatched to a report of gunshots at an intersection. After clearing the call, officers were flagged down by a victim at the scene. The victim reported that a known suspect had confronted him over a dispute. Thirty minutes later, the suspect returned with a second individual and fired several shots at the victim’s vehicle, striking it multiple times. Officers recovered six 9mm casings and processed the scene. The suspect vehicle was later located in Federal Way and was impounded for evidence.

17 bullets strike Jeep: 6:46 p.m., Valley Communications dispatched units to a report of a male shooting at a Jeep that was traveling northbound. Officers arrived to find 18 casings and abandoned clothing. Video footage showed a dark grey Jeep, leaving southbound on 108th Avenue SE. Shortly afterward, a call reported a grey Jeep with bullet holes had been abandoned at Extended Stay America, 22520 83rd Ave. S. The vehicle, with approximately 17 bullet holes, was found unoccupied, and no blood was detected and no one has been admitted to area hospitals with gunshot wounds.

Aug. 18

Two-hour standoff: 2:06 a.m., officers responded to Puget Sound Fire Station 75, 15635 SE 272nd St., for a suicidal subject armed with a gun. After a two-hour standoff, during which the subject fired several rounds, the subject was found to have a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The subject was transported to Valley Medical Center in Renton and remains in critical condition. No officers or civilians were injured.

No-contract order violation: 6:35 p.m. police responded to Alvista Lake Meridian Apartments, 14901 SE 272nd St., for an no-contact order violation. The suspect, who had previously assaulted the victim and held her against her will, was apprehended with the assistance of a Renton Police drone and a Kent SWAT officer. The victim and her children had escaped and were safe.

Aug. 19

Occupied stolen vehicle: 8:51 p.m., patrol located an occupied stolen vehicle at Circle K, 1700 W. Meeker St. The suspect observed the police presence and attempted to elude officers by driving recklessly on the sidewalk. The vehicle eventually collided with a fire hydrant and the Meeker Street Bar and Grill sign. Upon collision, the passenger was partially ejected from the vehicle. The suspect attempted to flee on foot, but officers successfully detained the suspect at the scene.

Carjacking: Officer took a report of a carjacking that occurred somewhere along Green River Road. The victim reportedly picked up an acquaintance, but the situation escalated when the suspect allegedly brandished a firearm and discharged a round into the floorboard of the vehicle. The victim fled the vehicle, and the suspect drove away. Flock cameras (capture license plates) detected the vehicle the following day, which was tracked to an unrelated residence on 116th Avenue SE. The driver was detained without incident. The driver matched the specific description provided by the victim, and a firearm was visible inside the vehicle. The suspect was booked into the Regional Justice Center, the vehicle was sealed and impounded, and detectives were notified.

Aug. 21

Drug arrest: Officer contacted a group behind Save U More grocery, 23636 104th Ave. SE, who were openly using drugs. Among those contacted, one individual was found in possession of a substantial amount of various narcotics, along with scales. Subject was arrested.

Aug. 22

Commercial burglary: 6:30 a.m., patrol responded to HMMA Home and Kitchen, 25600 104th Ave. SE, regarding a commercial burglary. Patrol met with the business owner and reviewed surveillance footage, revealing that the suspect had forced open the back door, entered the premises, and stolen a safe containing approximately $25,000 in cash. Automated Fingerprint Identification System processed the scene.

Aug. 23

HVAC thefts: 10:46 a.m., patrol responded to a theft at the business park at 100 Washington Ave. N. Upon speaking with the reporting party, patrol learned that eleven HVAC units had been stolen from the property. No suspects were witnessed taking the units.

Aug. 24

Road rage shooting: 4:11 p.m., patrol responded to a shooting at am/pm, 10400 SE Kent Kangley Road. The incident originated from a road rage altercation where one party exited their vehicle and was subsequently struck by the other party, who then attempted to leave the area. As they were going, the initial victim fired several rounds at the other party, striking them. Video evidence was collected, but the primary aggressor was not yet identified.

Aug. 25

Attempted kidnapping: A juvenile male, was attending a rooftop party at Madison Plaza Apartments, 102 Madison Ave. The victim managed to escape and took the elevator to the lobby, where the suspect grabbed him by the arm and attempted to take him out of the lobby. Bystanders intervened, and the suspect claimed the victim was his child. The bystanders insisted the victim was not, and the suspect fled. The suspect was followed by some witnesses and was found hiding in a portable toilet in the park next door on the Interurban Trail. Officers detained the suspect, and probable cause was established for second-degree attempted kidnapping. After further investigation, no probable cause was found and the man was released.

Aug. 26

Stolen vehicle pursuit: 12:30 a.m., an officer located an occupied stolen vehicle at Central Avenue and West Gowe Street. The officer followed the vehicle as additional units arrived to assist. A pursuit was authorized, but the engine failed at Kent Des Moines Road/Military Road. Officers performed a successful vehicle displacement as the vehicle attempted to flee again, preventing another pursuit. The occupants fled on foot. The driver, who was holding his pants up, refused to comply. Officers deployed their Tasers, gaining immediate compliance, and took the driver into custody. A loaded 9mm Beretta was found in his waistband.

Red Lion robbery: A man was at the Red Lion Inn, 25100 74th Ave. S., and reported that a suspect placed a gun to his head while another suspect took his backpack. The victim claimed he was en route to purchase a BMW and that the backpack contained $25,000 in cash. The suspect with the gun was known to be staying at the Red Lion along with his accomplice. The male with the gun was in the green belt just south of the hotel and was taken into custody without incident. The second male was not located.
