Incidents include shots fired, mall robbery, stolen water cannon, copper wire theft

A sampling of Kent Police incidents Feb. 9-23:

Feb. 9

Held at gunpoint: Officers responded to a report from a female stating that men outside her apartment had held her at gunpoint the previous night in Seattle. Officers from multiple units responded and determined that she had been forced into illegal activities. One male was arrested on a felony warrant, another was charged, and officers recovered multiple firearms, including a pistol, an AR-15 pistol, and another pistol that had been stashed upon police arrival.

Feb. 10

Shots fired: 10:12 p.m., officers responded to a report at the Extended Stay America, 22520 83rd Ave. S. The victim reported that the incident had occurred approximately one hour earlier and that he had driven home before calling the police. The investigation revealed that the suspect had been involved in a dispute with a relative over a work-related matter. The relative confronted the suspect, brandished a firearm, and discharged two rounds into the air before the victim was able to leave the scene. A .40 caliber casing was recovered during an area check.

Feb. 11

Mall robbery: 7:52 p.m., officers responded to a robbery at the Great Wall Shopping Mall, 18230 East Valley Highway. The investigation revealed that two female victims had just exited the mall when an unidentified suspect approached them and demanded their purses. The victims complied, and the suspect fled through the parking lot on foot. A perimeter was established, and a K9 track was initiated with the assistance of Guardian 1 helicopter from the King County Sheriff’s Office. During the search, the victims received alerts that their credit cards had been used at Nordstrom in Southcenter Mall in Tukwila. Tukwila police were notified, but the suspect was not located.

Stolen gun found: A stolen firearm was recovered at a construction site in the 23600 block of 30th Avenue South. The gun had been reported stolen in Seattle in October.

Domestic incident: Officers responded to a report of a domestic incident involving a firearm at Phoenix Court Apartments, 23913 111th Pl. SE. Upon investigation, the reporting party admitted that no gun had been involved. Further investigation determined that the reporting party was the suspect in the incident and was subsequently arrested.

Feb. 15

Water cannon stolen: While Puget Sound Fire was on scene for a medical call at Thea Bowman Apartments, 23920 32nd Ave. S., an individual accessed the fire engine and removed a 351-pound portable water cannon valued at $5,000.

Death investigation: Officers were dispatched to assist fire personnel at the Ashley House, 25120 43rd Ave. S. A 10-year-old male experiencing respiratory distress received medical attention when he went into respiratory and cardiac arrest. Despite medical efforts, the boy died. The residence is a specialized care home for minors with significant health conditions, and detectives were notified.

Feb. 18

Police pursuit: Officers conducted a proactive traffic stop for a suspected DUI at West Meeker Street and Washington Avenue South after the driver nearly sideswiped a patrol vehicle. The driver failed to comply, initiating a pursuit that continued eastbound on Southeast 277th Street, exiting at 108th Avenue SE before losing control and becoming disabled. The driver was taken into custody without injury and was found to have a no-bail warrant in addition to DUI-related charges.

Feb. 19

Copper wire theft: 7:10 a.m., officers responded to the area of Kennebeck Avenue South and East Guiberson Street regarding an in-progress wire theft. Upon arrival, the suspects had already fled the scene. Several CenturyLink cables were found cut from a nearby utility pole.

Feb. 21

Phone harassment: 11:34 a.m., officers responded to a harassment report via phone. The reporting party, a state Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) employee, stated they had been receiving multiple text messages from a subject who was upset about an active case.

Chevron incident: Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at a Chevron gas station. Upon arrival, they observed one individual outside acting as a lookout while another was inside. Officers intervened, and the situation was resolved with an arrest.

Feb. 22

Order violation: Officers were dispatched to Al Vista Lake Meridian Apartments, 14901 SE 272nd St., for a report of an order violation. A subject was on the premises in violation of a court order. Officers attempted to make contact, but the subject fled on foot. A search of the area was conducted. Later, the same individual was observed at a nearby location and was safely taken into custody.

Safeway altercation: 8:29 p.m., officers responded to a Safeway incident at 13000 SE Kent Kangley Road. Two vehicles were involved in a dispute in the parking lot, where an object was thrown. The situation escalated, leading to a verbal altercation. Officers identified the involved parties, and follow-up is ongoing.

Feb. 23

Panera disturbance: Officers responded to Panera Bread at Kent Station regarding an individual causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers observed the individual interacting with security personnel. The subject was contacted and later taken into custody without further incident.
