A sampling of Kent Police incidents June 26 to July 6:
June 26
• 7-Eleven shooting: 1:37 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting with injuries at 7-Eleven, 511 Central Ave. S. Officers arrived and located the gunshot wound victim. Aid was rendered, and fire/medics arrived shortly after. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where they were in stable condition. The initial investigation led officers to discover that two subjects walked southbound across Willis Street and into the store parking lot. While crossing into the parking lot, one of the suspects fired a gun toward a group of vehicles at the gas pumps, striking the victim once. The suspects then fled the area. Video footage showed the suspects fleeing westbound on foot on Willis Street.
• Agitated man at hotel: Officers were dispatched to HomeTowne Studios hotel, 25104 Pacific Highway S., regarding an agitated and aggressive male who threatened civilians and staff and stated he was going to fight anyone, including the police. The officers were patient and eventually got the male to cooperate and detained him. A witness staying at the hotel complimented the officers on their patience and professionalism in dealing with the suspect.
• Ramada Inn arson: 4:04 p.m., officers responded to the Ramada Inn, 22520 83rd Ave. S., regarding an arson. Upon arrival, they noticed the suspect leaving and were able to detain her. Witnesses reported that two people had been staying in the room and were involved in an argument. During the argument, one subject stated the suspect would not return to his room. The hotel attempted to mediate and allowed the suspect to retrieve items from the room. During this time, the suspect set some items on fire in the room.
June 30
• Asleep in wrong car: An officer responded to a vehicle trespass in the 24600 block of 45th Avenue South. The victim’s vehicle owner found an unknown female asleep in the back of his car. The female was detained and explained that she thought it was her car. A very similar vehicle belonging to the suspect was found nearby. The suspect got confused after drinking and mistakenly entered the wrong car.
July 1
• Stolen vehicle pursuit: An officer located an occupied stolen vehicle from the Quality Inn, 1711 W. Meeker St. The vehicle eluded the officer. It led officers on a short 4-minute pursuit before being successfully spiked and a PIT (precision immobilization technique) maneuver near South 272nd Street/72nd Avenue South. The driver was quickly detained following a brief foot pursuit, and another passenger was detained following a slightly longer foot pursuit. A third suspect fled on foot but has since been identified. The vehicle matched the description of a BOLO (be on the lookout) regarding multiple armed robberies in Seattle, and Seattle Police Department was notified. The male driver and male passenger were both booked without incident.
• Threat with weapon: Officers were dispatched to threats with a weapon call at the Quality Inn, 1711 W. Meeker St. A specific vehicle description was provided. The Special Investigations Unit was in the area conducting surveillance for an unrelated murder suspect and began following the vehicle, allowing the suspect vehicle to be quickly swarmed and stopped before the City Maintenance Shops on James Street. The suspect, a passenger in the car, and the driver were both detained. Officers obtained video from the Meeker Street Bar & Grill confirming the vehicle, suspect clothing and evidence of people running and the van fleeing.
• Bus stop robbery: 8:35 p.m., patrol responded to the 25600 block of 104th Avenue SE regarding a robbery with a gun. The victim had been waiting for a bus when juveniles approached her. Initially, they looked in her purse and asked for some food. She declined, and one of the juveniles took her phone from her hand, implying he had a pistol. The group of juveniles then fled the scene.
July 2
• Airsoft-type gun assault: Officers responded to an assault at South 200th Street and 100th Avenue SE where suspects in a vehicle drove by and shot an airsoft-type gun at walking victims.
July 3
• Shots fired from vehicle: Officers responded to a report of someone firing a gun from a moving vehicle near 64th Avenue South and South 212th Street. The suspect vehicle was seen parking at a business at 6006 S. 228th St. Five young males and females were found inside, and all were very uncooperative. A witness led officers to believe there might be a gun inside the vehicle, so it was impounded for a search warrant. Officers found a gun inside the car. Casings were located along Orillia Road.
• Parking lot robbery: 5:25 p.m., patrol responded to Safeway, 210 Washington Ave. S., regarding a robbery. The victim reported picking up an unknown male who began using drugs in his car. The victim became angry and tried to get the suspect out of his car, but the suspect brandished a knife and threatened him. During the argument, the victim was able to take hold of the knife and flee. The suspect took some items from the victim’s vehicle and fled but was later apprehended by patrol.
July 4
• Obstructing officers: Officers were dispatched to a physical domestic incident that escalated to a reported shooting while officers were in route to the 11700 block of SE 225th St. Upon arrival, officers contacted several compliant subjects outside the residence. However, one subject was non-compliant, yelling and being demonstrative. An officer interviewing a witness advised that the non-compliant subject had a gun. After several minutes of verbal de-escalation, the subject became more agitated and charged toward officers, disregarding commands. A lengthy investigation determined there was no shooting, and the incident stemmed from a domestic violence situation between two subjects who left before police arrival. The detained subject was arrested for obstruction due to his unlawful behavior, which extended the investigation and required additional resources.
July 5
• 7-Eleven robbery: 3:49 a.m., patrol viewed a robbery at 7-Eleven, 700 Washington Ave. N. Employees flagged down the officer and reported that four to five juveniles had shoplifted numerous items and, when confronted, informed the clerk they were armed. The suspects then fled with the merchandise. Officers were able to find and arrest three of the juveniles, ages 12 to 14.
• Eluding an officer: 6:11 a.m., patrol responded to Shell at 6331 S. 212th St., regarding a person slumped over in a vehicle. Patrol arrived and set up terminators to stop the vehicle from leaving. While doing so, they noticed several pills in the vehicle’s console and a pistol. Officers began a felony stop, during which the suspect awoke and attempted to flee. Officers pursued and, after a successful PIT maneuver, arrested the driver for possession of a stolen firearm and eluding.
• Cables stolen: 8:58 a.m., patrol responded to 10500 SE 256th Street regarding a burglary from a cellphone tower. The AT&T employee informed patrol that several thousand dollars worth of cables were stolen or damaged.
• Butt-grabbing incident: A man grabbed the buttocks of a 14-year-old female at the pool of Irwin Park Apartments, 10925 SE 259th St. A witness visually followed the suspect to an apartment. Officers followed up and were told the suspect had left. They noticed a pair of wet swim trunks on the floor, as described by the witness. A search warrant was obtained, and the shorts were recovered. The suspect had left his ID in the trunks.
July 6
• Domestic violence assault: An officer was dispatched to St. Anne Hospital in Burien for a report of a domestic violence assault that occurred at Sun Vista Apartments, 1255 Weiland St. The suspect had pointed a gun at the victim, fired several rounds into the air, and pistol-whipped her, likely causing broken ribs.
