Kent Police Blotter: March 27-April 10

A sampling of Kent Police incidents March 27 to April 10:

March 27

Carjacking: 4:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to a carjacking at the Phoenix Court Apartments, 23913 111th Pl. SE. Two suspects asked the victim for a ride. When the victim declined, the suspects reportedly assaulted him and took his keys and vehicle at gunpoint. The vehicle was later recovered in Tukwila where arrests were made.

March 28

Shooting: 10:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 21500 block of 47th Court S. The victim had recently purchased a vehicle from another subject and there was a dispute over money owed. They agreed to meet at this location to return the vehicle and money already paid. Once the meet occurred, the suspect pulled out a gun and began shooting at the victim. Multiple vehicles were hit, but no one was injured.

March 29

Intimidating a witness: 7:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to Riverwood Apartments, 24620 Russell Road, for a juvenile problem reportedly linked to two robberies and an assault. The victims calling in stated the same juvenile who robbed them last week was now at their residence, knocking on their door, attempting to get in. The juvenile was now out of custody and on electronic home monitoring. The juvenile suspect was arrested for intimidating a witness and a probation violation. The juvenile’s ankle monitor was not on/charged at the time of the arrest. He was booked into King County Juvenile Detention, again. The juvenile’s brother, a 16-year-old, is also a suspect/person of interest for intimidating a witness in this case but there was no probable cause to arrest without further evidence.

Library arrest: 11:15 p.m., officers contacted a group near the Kent Library, 212 Second Ave. N., where there has been problems with transients trespassing overnight. One of the subjects had a fourth-degree assault domestic violence warrant. He was subsequently arrested and booked. The others were trespassed. Officers have added extra patrols to that area during the evening hours to keep the area clear overnight.

March 30

Suspicious subject: 1:19 a.m., officers were dispatched to a suspicious subject looking into windows and rummaging through bins at Puget Sound Energy at 68th Avenue South and South 228th Street. The suspect was found to have multiple felony warrants, including state DOC escape/no bail; failure to register as a sex offender/$50,075; and burglary/no bail. He was booked into the Score jail in Des Moines on the DOC warrant.

Vehicular assault warrant: 6:58 p.m., officers viewed a vehicle drifting and driving reckless near the intersection of East Morton Street/Bridges Avenue S. A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle pulled over. The driver had a $150,000 felony warrant out of King County of vehicular assault x2, eluding, hit and run and reckless driving. This subject reportedly turned out to be a resident/owner/employee of the auto shop at the intersection of East Morton Street/Bridges Avenue S. The driver was arrested for his warrant after he attempted to flee on foot. He told the officers that had he known he had the warrant he would not have stopped for them initially.

March 31

Suspicious vehicle: 7:13 a.m., officers were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle in the 23000 block of 125th Avenue SE. The vehicle was reported stolen out of Renton and was occupied by two occupants passed out in the front two seats. Officers placed tire deflation devices under the tires. When officers called out to the occupants they woke up, started the car, and started to flee from the scene. The vehicle ran over the terminators and stop sticks and quickly lost the air in the tires. The driver couldn’t control the vehicle and collided into an officer’s vehicle. A high-risk stop was conducted and both occupants were detained. There was probable cause for possession of a stolen vehicle and eluding, but due to the suspect being pregnant she was released to Valley Medical Center in Renton for medical care.

Stolen U-Haul: 10:31 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 12400 block of SE 210th St regarding a recently occupied stolen U-Haul out of Tukwila. Officers located the vehicle with a male standing near the door. He was given verbal commands to stop, and he was under arrest. The subject fled on foot through the neighborhood. A perimeter was set up, the subject was located, and he was taken into custody without further incident. The subject was booked on his King County felony warrant for possession of a stolen vehicle.

April 1

Threat with a weapon: 5:14 p.m., officers were dispatched to the HomeTowne Studios, 25104 Pacific Highway S., regarding a threat with a weapon. The victim, while working security for the hotel, interrupted what he believed to be a drug deal and tried to get the subjects to leave. One of the subjects pulled a gun on the victim. The suspect left the area but was apprehended down the street by officers and a plastic gun was recovered.

April 2

Shots fired: 7:42 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting in the 100 block of West Willis St. One of the victims had been standing on the side of the 7-Eleven with others when a vehicle pulled up and the driver began firing several rounds at them. No one was injured.

April 4

Man with knife: 5:47 a.m., officers were dispatched (address not listed in report) to a subject running around a house with knife in hand while making statements for others to stay away. As officers prepared to make entry the suspect began to exit a side door where he was detained without incident.

Baby left at hotel: 5:57 p.m., officers responded to a report of a lost child at the Extended Stay Hotel, 22520 83rd Ave. S. A female renter of a room had left just prior to the 911 call, leaving her 3-month-old child behind in the room. The hotel manager had confronted the woman as she left and asked where her baby was, and the woman told the manager that the baby was “full of witchcraft” and she was done with it. Officers took custody of the baby and noticed bruising on the baby’s wrists and ankles as well as along the baby’s back. The child was transported to Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma and Child Protective Services responded to take custody of the child.

Robbery, stabbing: 9:32 p.m., officers were dispatched to a stabbing near Lowe’s, 24050 Pacific Highway S. The incident occurred while the victim was at the bus stop out front of the business. He dropped his wallet and a subject next to him picked it up and began taking money out of it. This prompted a physical altercation where two more suspects joined in and assaulted him. The victim ran, the suspects gave chase, and they ended up in Des Moines where a vehicle pulled up in front of him and two more suspects got out. One of the suspects then stabbed the victim.

April 7

Smash and grab burglary: 6:05 a.m., officers responded to a commercial burglary the Express Smoke Shop, 26027 104th Ave. SE. The entire front of the business was destroyed, and the smoke shop ransacked. The burglary was committed by two individuals who used a reported stolen van out of Renton to drive through the business to gain entry. The suspects stole thousands of dollars’ worth of product and caused more than $50,000 in damage to the business.

Fight with a rifle: 6:42 p.m., officers responded to a fight with a rifle near Railroad Avenue and Russell Street. A resident was in a fight with a transient. After the fight, the resident, went back to his house, retrieved a shotgun, and brought it back to where the fight happened and was looking for the transient. The resident was found to be a convicted felon out of a small town in Alaska. He was arrested and booked into King County jail.

April 8

Gun threat: 9:49 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting in the parking lot of the Shell Station, 15209 SE 272nd St. Upon arrival officers found there was no shooting, but the suspect was armed with a handgun. The victims were sitting in their parked vehicle when the suspect vehicle parked beside them. The victims did not like the way they parked, and the male suspect approached them. Words were exchanged until the suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded they get out of their vehicle. While doing this, the suspect racked a round out of his gun. The victims then asked the suspect what he was going to while pointing out all the cameras recording them. The suspect got back into his vehicle and left.

Fred Meyer robbery: 10:49 a.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery at the Fred Meyer, 10201 SE 240th St. The victim was walking through the parking lot after buying groceries when the unknown suspect ran up, ripped her purse away, and pushed her to the ground while running away. The suspect fled in a vehicle. Officers later located the vehicle which fled prompting a short pursuit. The suspect vehicle collided with a patrol vehicle prompting the suspect to run on foot. Officers were able to take the suspect into custody in a wooded area after a K-9 track.

April 10

Zumiez robbery: 6:37 p.m., officers responded to a robbery of the Zumiez in Kent Station. The suspect was arrested for second-degree robbery. The suspect had fought with store security knocking them to the ground and striking them while on the ground then again in the parking lot in an attempt to escape.
