A sampling of Kent Police incidents May 13-26:

May 13

Red Lion carjacking: Midnight, an officer responded to a carjacking incident at the Red Lion, 25100 74th Ave. S. The suspect hit the reporting party’s girlfriend with a backpack and then took the vehicle. The reporting party was gone on arrival, and a female at the Red Lion denied having any involvement. Another officer located the vehicle, unoccupied, in the 700 block of First Avenue South. The vehicle identification number (VIN) was partially covered. The vehicle was confirmed stolen out of Federal Way.

Vehicle theft during sale: 10:25 p.m., officers responded to a theft at the Bank of America parking lot, 12900 SE Kent-Kangley Road. A man reported attempting to sell his vehicle via Facebook Marketplace. He had been corresponding with the suspect for a few days to arrange a meeting time. They eventually agreed upon this time and location. The victim and his passenger exited their vehicle and began speaking with the suspect. After a brief conversation, the suspect ran to the vehicle, got in, and drove off.

Rape arrest: 10:51 p.m., officers were dispatched to a report of suspicious circumstances at Kent Valley Ice Center, 6015 S. 240th St. A passerby reported a juvenile female at the location stating she was being chased by a male with a gun. The juvenile also reported that the same male had tried to rape her. Officers contacted the victim, and Puget Sound Fire responded to assist with medical aid. The 13-year-old girl was transported to Seattle Children’s Hospital for further treatment and evaluation. An officer accompanied the girl to the hospital to gather more information. It was found that part of this incident may have occurred at the 7-Eleven at Washington Avenue/James Street. The exact location of the rape was still under investigation. Probable cause was established to arrest the suspect for second-degree rape of a child. At approximately 1:39 a.m., an officer was retrieving video evidence of the incident from the 7-Eleven at Washington/James. While doing so, the suspect returned to the store. The officer aired the information and contacted the suspect. The suspect was detained without incident.

Child abuse: An officer responded to an elementary school for a suicidal 11-year-old boy. Initially appearing to be a involuntary commitment call, further investigation revealed the victim wanted to commit suicide due to abuse by his mother. It was discovered that all four children in the home were being abused, with the 11-year-old boy taking the bulk of the abuse due to being the “man of the house.” The mother was arrested on an unrelated $10,000 domestic violence warrant. The children were removed and placed with a family member approved by Child Protective Services (CPS). A detective, along with other officers, responded to the mother’s residence for further investigation and to take her into custody.

Sex trafficking: An officer uncovered a likely prostitution ring operating out of the Red Lion, 25100 74th Ave. S., due to proactive patrols in the area. A male subject suspected of “running girls” out of the Red Lion was identified, along with two females being sex trafficked by the male. A case was prepared and sent to detectives for further investigation.

May 18

Robbery at apartment: 12:45 a.m., patrol responded to a robbery at 11400 SE 208th St. The victim was walking up to her apartment when she was approached by a male suspect. The suspect demanded her money, and she handed over her cash. When the suspect asked for her credit cards and she refused, the suspect forcefully took her purse and fled on foot.

May 19

Robbery while walking: 9:30 p.m., patrol responded to a robbery in the 19300 block of 108th Avenue SE. The victim was walking along 108th Ave. SE when a group of 3-4 individuals surrounded her. One of them pulled her to the ground, and the group began to drag her off the pavement. She initially tried to defend herself by biting one of the attackers’ hands, but they struck her. She eventually gave them her purse, and the group fled in several directions.

May 20

Vehicle theft: 5:14 p.m., patrol responded to a vehicle theft in progress at Indigo Springs Apartments, 11100 SE 208th St. Two juveniles were observed tampering with vehicle locks and ignitions. Upon arrival, officers found the suspects attempting to leave in one of the vehicles. The suspects fled upon seeing the police but were subsequently located and arrested. They were not booked due to a decline by King County juvenile detention.

May 22

Civil standby arrest: 9:30 a.m., officers responded to a civil standby at 19665 122nd Place SE. The reporting party was attempting a child custody exchange, but the father was non-compliant despite a no-contact order allowing the exchange. Dispatch revealed the father had a $100,000 warrant for assault in the second degree and an failure to appear for a no-contact order violation. Before officers arrived, the father relinquished the child but remained at the scene. Officers confirmed his presence in a friend’s residence and initiated barricade tactics. The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended after a K-9 unit and drone-assisted pursuit.

May 24

Stolen vehicle: 2:30 p.m., an officer assisted King County Sheriff’s Office deputies with an occupied stolen vehicle at WinCo, 21100 91st Place S. After failing to pay for the first rental car, the driver had stolen a second rental vehicle. The driver was arrested and booked for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Welfare check: 6:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to a welfare check at Benson Village Apartments, 21016 109th Place. They encountered a suicidal male armed with a knife. Using de-escalation techniques, officers persuaded the suspect to disarm multiple knives before deploying a Taser to safely take him into custody.

Robbery at apartments: 9:49 p.m., patrol responded to a robbery at Grandview Apartments, 3900 Veterans Drive, that had occurred earlier in the day. The victim reported being approached by two individuals who held guns to his head and demanded his belongings. The suspects also forced the victim to send them money via a phone app before fleeing the area on foot.

May 26

Assault at apartments: 4:53 p.m., while securing the scene from a previous case, a patrol officer was flagged about an assault outside Country Glen Apartments, 27400 132nd Ave. SE. A male had been slashed across the face with a knife by a female suspect who fled. The female was captured and interviewed, revealing she attacked the victim after he refused to stop staring at her.

May 27

Robbery at playfields: 4:14 p.m., patrol responded to a robbery near Wilson Playfields, 13028 SE 251st St. Several juveniles reportedly robbed one or two others of their phones and shoes.
