A sampling of Kent Police incidents May 9-28:

May 9

Apartment shooting: 5:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at the Pembrooke Apartments, 25907 27th Place S. The victims were with their two children at the apartment complex attending a dinner with friends. When they arrived and began going into the apartment, a vehicle drove by, and then went in reverse stopping nearby. Two female suspects got out, approached the victim, and demanded her purse. The victim was hit in the face after the suspects demanded the passcode to her phone. The suspects then fled in the vehicle. While they were leaving, one of the suspects leaned out the window and began firing at the victim family. No one was struck by gunfire.

LA Fitness shooting: 7:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at LA Fitness, 12922 SE Kent Kangley Road. The victim was inside the fitness center and just finished his workout. When he walked into the parking lot, he saw the suspect near his vehicle. The victim thought the suspect was attempting to break into his vehicle and they began to exchange words. The suspect got into another vehicle and began to drive away. While doing so, the victim saw the suspect lean out of the vehicle and point a firearm at him. The victim jumped out of the way and the suspect left the area. The victim thought the suspect shot at him, but no casings were located.

May 10

Harassment: 2:17 p.m., officers were dispatched to a suspicious circumstance at the Waterbrook Apartments, 10615 SE 250th Place. There was probable cause for felony harassment and fourth-degree assault for a man. After hours of announcements and efforts from the Hostage Negotiation Team and detectives, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident. A search warrant was obtained for the suspect’s apartment and three firearms were removed resulting in an unlawful possession of firearms charge as well.

May 11

School bomb threat: 2:14 p.m., a person called 911 stating they had placed bombs at Mill Creek Middle School, 620 Central Ave. N., which would explode at 3:10 p.m., additionally they would also be there with rifles to create a “mad shooting.” The caller went on, falsely identifying themselves, saying they were at neighboring El Sabor, and mentioning one of the school employees. Officers and school security converged on the school which was placed into lockdown and a cursory sweep was performed. The students were dismissed in waves and all after-school events were cancelled.

Stolen vehicle: 7:26 p.m., officers were dispatched to a stolen Honda Civic at Safeway on Kent-Kangley Road and 132nd Avenue SE. One suspect was armed with a handgun. All involved were detained without incident and the armed suspect was learned to be a convicted felon. The driver of the stolen vehicle was booked for possession of a stolen vehicle and the armed male was booked for violation of the uniform firearms act.

May 12

Shell station robbery: 9:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery at a Shell station, 8815 S. 180th St. The victim employee was working when the two suspects arrived at the store. The victim recognized one of the suspects as a regular customer, so he didn’t believe the robbery was real when the other suspect pointed a gun at him demanding money. The suspect then fired a round next to the victim as a show of force. The victim complied at this point and the suspects ended up taking around $400.

May 13

Man shot in foot: 10:27 p.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at Sterling Ridge Apartments, 11328 SE Kent Kangley Road. They located one victim with a gunshot wound to the foot. The victim had just parked his vehicle when the suspect vehicle pulled in behind him. The occupants of the suspect vehicle opened fire on him and his dog who were still inside their vehicle. The victim did not provide any further details and stated he did not know why this had occurred.

May 15

Circle K shooting: 1:36 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting at Circle K, 1809 W Meeker St. The victim had a gunshot wound to the head. The victim and another acquaintance had walked to the store to purchase items and stood out front for a short time. The victim was seen walking up to a vehicle and was eventually shot by someone inside it. The victim was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Detectives were able to identify the suspects and arrested them.

May 16

Shots fired: 12:24 a.m., officers were dispatched to shots fired at Totem Townhouses, 25449 104th Ave. SE. A male and female juvenile met and were walking on 104th Avenue SE. A black Kia sedan with a broken rear passenger side window had driven passed them northbound on 104th Avenue SE near the Applebee’s. The vehicle then turned around on 104th Avenue and the involved juveniles began running towards Totem Townhomes. They ran to a unit where they were let in and hid. About 10-15 seconds later they heard gunshots. Officers identified two bullet holes in the unit and one of the bullets had shattered a glass sliding door before striking a wall on the other side of the room. The other had passed through the exterior wall to the right of the door and into another wall on the other side of the room. Officers located and collected four casings in the parking lot.

Residence shooting: 2:58 a.m., officers were dispatched to a shooting near a residence in the 23700 block of 43rd Ave S. Two vehicles ended up near the reporting party’s residence. The occupants of one vehicle got out and shot at the other. Both the suspects and victims left the area in their respective vehicles. The reporting party gave video surveillance to the officers depicting what he relayed. Casings were found in the street which consisted of two different calibers.

Kidnapping: 8:02 p.m., officers were dispatched to a suspicious circumstance at Catholic Community Services, 1229 W. Smith St. The reporting party thought he witnessed a kidnapping where a male beat up a female and forced her into a vehicle. Officers located a vehicle matching the provided description fleeing from the area and a pursuit ensued. Officers pursed the vehicle into Auburn where a successful pursuit immobilization technique maneuver was executed, and the occupants of the vehicle were detained. The female victim confirmed she was the victim of a kidnapping and provided a statement. The suspect was booked into King County jail.

Fentanyl in child’s blood: 10:06 p.m., officers responded to a CPR in progress on a 3-month-old girl in the 12500 block of SE 212th Place. The child stopped breathing while her mother was feeding her. Fire and medics arrived, and the child was resuscitated and transported to Children’s Hospital in Seattle. The child returned home the next day. On May 17, at 2:14 p.m., officers received a drug report from Children’s indicating fentanyl was found in the child’s blood. They requested the child be returned. Officers met with the family and CPS and the child was taken into protective custody.

May 17

Sexual assault threat: 4:56 a.m., officers were dispatched to a welfare check within the Woodland Estates Apartments, 4821 Kent Des Moines Road. A woman was screaming “help me” and several other callers reporting that a female was hanging off an apartment balcony. An unknown suspect had randomly broken into the victim’s apartment and made comments to her suggesting he was going to sexually assault her. The victim escaped by jumping from her balcony to a neighboring one on the second floor. Officers located and placed the suspect in custody.

May 18

Armed robbery: 5:19 a.m., an officer was flagged down in the 10700 block of SE 208th Street by a juvenile who claimed he was robbed several hours prior. The incident started when he received a message on Snapchat from a friend who needed a ride claiming he was in trouble. The victim drove to Kent and picked up his friend, his friend’s brother, and an unknown male. The victim drove through Kent and eventually was told to get out of his vehicle near Kentridge High School. The unknown suspect pulled out a gun and robbed him of his belongings and his vehicle. The victim’s “friend” and “friend’s brother” remained in the vehicle and all three suspects left the area. The victim’s vehicle was later recovered in Seattle.

May 20

Street racing gunshots: 1:35 a.m., officers were handling a traffic collision in the 18400 block of East Valley Highway when they heard a large amount of gunfire coming from the north. Officers responded to the area to find 200 plus vehicles attending street races, some who were attempting to flee while others were watching a vehicle doing burn outs in a parking lot. Officers located around 30 spent casings in the Planet Fitness parking lot, 18129 E. Valley Highway. There were no calls reporting damage to vehicles or injuries sustained.

May 21

Door Dash assault: 2:03 p.m., officers were dispatched to an assault that was occurring within The Pines at Canyon Station Apartments, 9626 S. 252nd St. Three female suspects were attacking one single victim. The suspects used pepper spray on the victim and took her keys and phone. Upon arrival, officers found the victim who had suffered obvious injuries. The victim was completing a Door Dash delivery and when she finished, she was pepper sprayed near her vehicle by the suspects. They began hitting and pulling her to the ground demanding her car keys and phone. The victim would not let them have her key fob which prompted the suspects to injure her more severely. One suspect eventually took hold of the key fob but was not able to operate the vehicle she was trying to steal. All suspects fled in a different vehicle, threw the victim’s phone out the window, and only left with the victim’s key fob.

May 22

Residential assault: 10:54 p.m., officers were dispatched to an assault that occurred at a residence in the 21300 block of 120th Place SE. The victim arrived at her residence, parked on the street leaving her vehicle running, and got out to check her mailbox. An unknown suspect jumped into her vehicle, put it in reverse and began to drive away. The victim latched onto the driver’s side door in her attempt to stop the suspect, lost her balance and was dragged by the vehicle. The suspect drove down the street until he hit a bush causing the vehicle to stop and then fled on foot. The victim suffered injuries to her extremities.

May 24

Street robbery: 8:28 p.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery near the intersection of SE 240th Street and 100th Avenue SE. A vehicle, occupied by four suspects, drove up to a juvenile victim. The victim recognized those in the vehicle and walked over to them when he was beckoned. The suspects reportedly got out of the vehicle with firearms and demanded his cellphone and chain. When the victim would not provide his pass code, the suspects hit him and stole his Jordan shoes. The victim’s cellphone was tracked to the Central Flats Apartment complex, 1024 Central Ave. N., but was not specifically located.

May 25

DV assault: 8:24 a.m., officers responded to a physical domestic violence in the 11200 block of SE 232nd Street. The suspect reportedly had put his hands around the victim’s neck and strangled her. The suspect was arrested and transported to the King County jail for booking.

Cycle shop burglary: 9:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress at the Cycle Therapyp, 422 Third Ave. S. An employee caught a suspect after he broke into a detached garage at the business and assembled an electric bicycle behind the garage. The employee detained the suspect until police arrived. The suspect was booked into the King County jail for burglary.

7-Eleven robbery: 10:49 p.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery at 7-Eleven, 18012 68th Ave. S. Two suspects entered the store and robbed the employee at gunpoint. The suspects demanded money and ended up taking cigars and around $200 in cash.

Apartment stabbing: 11:03 p.m., officers were dispatched to a stabbing that occurred within the Benson Village Apartments, 10820 SE 211th Place. The marked security officer for the apartment complex was locking the north gate to the complex when he saw the male suspect smoking nearby. The victim confronted the suspect telling him he needed to leave, and the suspect became angry. The victim eventually said he was going to call 911 to have him removed from the property and that prompted the suspect to attack the victim with a 12-inch knife. The suspect fled on foot and the victim’s injuries required stitches.

May 26

Store ATM stolen: 4:12 a.m., officers were dispatched to a commercial alarm at the Chandlers Bay Grocery and Deli, 1018 Central Ave. N. The store had been broken into as the front doors were open and the door lock had been punched. Officers reviewed the video and saw the suspect used the store’s blue cart and wheeled the ATM out the front door.

May 27

7-Eleven robbery: 3:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a robbery at 7-Eleven, 711 Washington Ave. N. Two suspects entered the store and robbed them at gunpoint. The suspect took cigarettes and around $600 in cash.

May 28

Apartment robbery: 10:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to ARCO am/pm, 24014 116th Ave. SE, about a robbery at the Phoenix Court Apartments, 23913 111th Pl. SE . The victim was confronted by suspects who asked him for money. When he said he didn’t have any, they attacked him and hit him over the head with a baseball bat. The suspects took his wallet and cellphone. The victim ran to the gas station to call 911. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Man on road: 11:22 p.m., officers responded to a male laying on the side of the roadway just west of the 7-Eleven, 711 Washington Ave. N., and began rendering aid to the patient. He was involved in a verbal domestic approximately three hours prior, where he was also intoxicated. He was crossing West James Street and was hit by a vehicle. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

Major emphasis patrol

Over the Memorial Day weekend several successful racer emphasis operations were held with the assistance of Washington State Patrol. Police made 14 arrests, wrote 10 tickets, impounded one vehicle and recovered one illegally possessed gun.
