Kent Police arrested a man for investigation of prostitution loitering after he reportedly picked up a woman walking near South 240th Street and Pacific Highway South on the West Hill.

An officer stopped a Honda Ridgeline at a gas station near the intersection at about 9:13 p.m. on March 11, according to the police report.

The officer noted the street has signs posted as a Stay Out of Areas of Prostitution zone per city code. The officer saw a woman walk up to the vehicle and get inside at a Lowe’s store driveway. The officer then followed the vehicle in his marked patrol car for a short distance before the driver pulled into a gas station.

Another officer assisted with the case. Both officers recognized the woman from previous prostitution arrests. The driver told police the woman was a friend named Victoria and he just picked her up to give her a ride. When the officer questioned the man about trying to pick up a prostitute, the man admitted that’s what he was doing.

The woman, whose name wasn’t Victoria, told police she never agreed to do anything with the driver. She said the man wanted to pay her $25 for a sex act but she didn’t agree to that price.

The driver asked police to call his wife to come pick up his vehicle. Officers tried calling the wife but didn’t get any answer, so they impounded the vehicle as allowed under city law.

Man litters, speeds away

Officers cited a man for littering and arrested him on two warrants after he sped away from a traffic stop at about 4:04 p.m. on March 10 near Fourth Avenue South and Willis Street.

An officer saw the man throw a small white object out of a VW Golf and pulled the car over, according to the police report. The officer asked the man for his license, registration and insurance and then stepped back to call in the stop to dispatch. The item tossed out the window was a plastic tip to a small cigar.

The driver then accelerated at full throttle and sped westbound on Willis Street at speeds of 50 to 60 mph in a 40 mph zone. The officer got back in his patrol vehicle and chased the man for about 10 seconds before stopping the pursuit because of heavy traffic. The VW driver headed northbound on Highway 167.

Police later went to the address of where the vehicle was registered and talked to the wife of the man. She said her husband had borrowed the car but wasn’t home. Three days later, officers arrested the man at his home in the 1000 block of East Filbert Street. He had a malicious mischief warrant out of Federal Way and had previous been issued a driving while license suspended.

The man told officers he sped away from the traffic stop because he was scared since he had a warrant for his arrest.

Man breaks car window

Police arrested a man for investigation of malicious mischief after he allegedly broke out a car window of a parked vehicle at about 5:13 a.m. on March 10 in the 21200 block of 84th Avenue South.

A witness saw the man break the window and began to follow him, according to the police report.

The witness called 911 as he followed the man. He followed him onto a bus and then off the bus at the Kent Transit Center. Police met up with the man near the Kent Library.

Officers discovered the man had a theft warrant out of Renton. He also had syringes in his pockets and glass pipes in his backpack, so police arrested him for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Man slaps woman inside store

Officers arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly hit a woman he knew when they were inside the Fred Meyer store, 25251 Pacific Highway S., at about 8 p.m. on March 11.

The woman flagged down an officer near the store and told him the man had slapped her in the face after they had been in an argument, according to the police report.

The man denied slapping the woman. He said he tried to hit her but missed. Officers watched a store video that showed the man had slapped the woman. The report didn’t state what had started the dispute.

Husband hits wife

Police arrested a man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly grabbed and choked his wife during a dispute on March 10 in the Kent United Methodist Church parking lot, 11010 SE 248th St.

The woman said her husband grabbed her hair and choked her after she had grabbed his cellphone, according to the police report. She claimed her husband was having an affair. The husband told police he only grabbed her wrist after she took his cellphone.

Officers noted the woman had red marks on her arm and neck.
