Kent Police catch two burglary suspects inside West Hill home

Kent Police arrested two men Thursday for investigation of burglary after they responded to a home alarm system and found two men inside the house.

Officers responded at about 12:20 p.m. to a home in the 25100 block of 35th Avenue South on the West Hill after a home intrusion alarm activated, according to a Kent Police media release.

Police arrived within three minutes and discovered a broken window at the home and two men inside. As officers surrounded the home, they took one man into custody at the door. The second man fled while police arrested his partner.

Additional officers from Des Moines Police and a K-9 team from the Federal Way Police assisted. Officers found the second man a short time later as he emerged from a back yard several blocks away.

Both men, a 20-year-old Des Moines resident and a 25-year-old transient, were taken into custody without incident and booked into the Kent city jail.

“This is another great example of how a coordinated strategy for impacting crime can make an immediate change in the security of a community,” said Kent Police Cmdr. Pat Lowery.

On Tuesday, Kent Police announced a new enforcement initiative that focuses on high impact property crime offenders. Special teams of officers have been deployed to track habitual criminals. In addition, these teams are assisting the efforts of field officers by conducting extra patrols in those areas that are experiencing the greatest threat from the repeat offenders.

“Being able to respond quickly and saturate an area gives police the advantage in catching these criminals in the act,”  Lowery said.

The enhanced enforcement effort has netted eight arrests this week in the first 48 hours.
