Kent Police seized 31 marijuana plants worth an estimated $31,000 on March 24 from a West Hill home in the 3300 block of South 261st Street.

Police discovered the marijuana after a West Hill resident reported two juvenile boys walking along Military Road at about 11 a.m. March 24 and carrying a large bundle with personal property falling to the ground, said Kent Police Sgt. Pat Lowery in a March 25 e-mail.

Officers located the boys walking along Military Road. The boys admitted to police that they had taken items from a nearby home and took the officers back to that home.

The officers found the home unlocked and unoccupied. During a search of the home, police found a marijuana growing operation in the basement.

Police also found what appeared to be a small explosive device near the plants. The officers exited the home and called the Port of Seattle bomb squad to check out the device.

The bomb squad inspected the device and determined it to be safe.

The officers returned inside the home and confiscated the plants as well as high-intensity lighting equipment often used to help plants grow.

As of Friday, police had not made any arrests in connection with the pot-growing operation.

Police arrested a 16-year-old Auburn boy and a 15-year-old Federal Way boy for investigation of burglary for reportedly taking items from the home.
