The Kent Police Department, Kent Drug Free Coalition and its partners will host a town hall to help parents and their children learn about underage drug and alcohol use.
With a working title of, “Do You Know More Than Your Student?,” the town hall runs from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18 at Meridian Middle School, 23480 120th Ave SE, Kent, in the multipurpose room.
Parents, as well as students in the sixth through 12th grades are invited to attend, according to a Kent Police media release. Helping parents determine if their child is experimenting with drugs or alcohol, and sharing tools to help prevent substance abuse can stop what often becomes a lifetime problem. By bringing your student you open the door to valuable conversation that can prevent them from experimenting with drugs/alcohol.
Presenters include Kent Police detectives to talk about current drug/alcohol trends, and a panel to include students who have gone through treatment and parents of students who have gone through treatment.
Parents are the number one reason why kids choose not to drink or use drugs.
