Kent Police pursue, arrest two 14-year-old boys for armed robbery

April 23 incident began at convenience store along West Meeker Street; ended on Military Road South

Kent Police arrested two 14-year-old boys for investigation of armed robbery after about a 3-mile pursuit that started at a convenience store on West Meeker Street and ended on Military Road South on the West Hill.

Officers were dispatched at about 5:01 a.m. Tuesday, April 23 in response to a report of a robbery with a gun at a convenience store in the 1400 block of West Meeker Street, according to Kent Police.

The 911 caller said three young males in masks and hoodies had robbed him at gunpoint, then fled in a vehicle. A license plate number for the vehicle was provided and officers determined the vehicle had been stolen in Tukwila, according to police.

Multiple Kent officers responded to the area and were able to locate the suspect vehicle nearby. The teens refused to yield. The officers had developed probable cause for robbery with a weapon, so they were authorized by state law to pursue, according to police.

The teens fled towards the West Hill and drove southbound towards Federal Way. The officers attempted pursuit intervention techniques (PIT) and requested that Federal Way officers assist by deploying tire spike strips to end the pursuit, according to police. These methods were partially effective in slowing down the suspect vehicle.

The pursuit ended in the 26800 block of northbound Military Road South. All three teens jumped out of the stolen vehicle and fled on foot. Two of the suspects, both 14 years-old males, were located by officers shortly after they fled. A K-9 team and drone searched for the third suspect, who was not located.

The three teens are allegedly suspected to have committed other robberies and crimes in the area. Kent detectives are working with neighboring law enforcement agencies to determine their involvement in other crimes.

If anyone has information regarding the identity of the third suspect, or other information regarding this incident, email KPDTipLine@kentwa.gov or call the tip line at 253-856-5808.
