The Kent Police Department and the Kent Drug Free Coalition received a $188,580 federal grant to help prevent underage drinking.
Kent received a Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking (STOP) grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The grant is over a four-year period for $47,145 per year. STOP grant funds will be used to support underage drinking prevention strategies, directed for student’s in grades 6-12, as well as community-based strategies such as alcohol compliance checks of local on and off site alcohol establishments.
“We are excited to help students in Kent continue to make healthy and good choices to not drink alcohol and to be positive role models in our community” said Dana Ralph, director of the Kent Drug Free Coalition.
