Kent Police are asking for help to identify a man wanted in connection with a robbery at a Rite Aid store, 105 Washington Ave. N., where he used an iPhone to tell clerks he had a gun and wanted oxycodone.
At about 9:35 p.m. on July 16, officers were dispatched to the Rite Aid for a report of a robbery during which the suspect implied he had a gun, according to a Wednesday Kent Police media release.
Pharmacy staff reported that a black man with a light complexion approached the pharmacy, and said his name was “Michael Edwards.” He handed the pharmacy technician his iPhone which had a message on the screen that inferred he was robbing the pharmacy; he had a gun and that he would shoot.
The note demanded oxycodone, a prescription drug used to relieve severe pain. The man got away with 23 bottles of oxycodone, worth an undisclosed amount.
Officers searched the area for the suspect but didn’t find him. He was caught on the camera store surveillance and is described as 25 to 35 years old with dark hair and a goatee. He is 5 feet 9 inches tall, and described as having a medium build, and brown eyes.
“Our concern is that this guy got away with it once, so he will likely try again,” detective Melanie Frazier said.
