Kent resident Laryssa Smith received an academic award at Saint Martin’s University’s Student Scholars Day and Honors Convocation.
The day included student presentations throughout the afternoon and an awards ceremony followed by a reception.
The annual celebration was started in 2000 by former Saint Martin’s faculty member Doug Ford, in memory of his mother, Grace Riddell Ford, a talented chemist, metallurgist and teacher. The day is set aside and the University suspends classes to honor the significant scholarly and artistic accomplishments of the University’s students.
Smith took home the Rosalind Elsie Franklin Award. She is a biology major at the university.
