A dispute between two Kent roommates reportedly led to one man slashing a living room couch with knives and sticking a screwdriver into a flat screen television.
Officers arrested a man for investigation of malicious mischief after responding to the dispute at about 11:57 a.m. on Oct. 16 at the Rock Creek Landing Apartments, 1024 Central Ave. N., according to the Kent Police report.
Police had responded to the same unit the previous day but didn’t make any arrests as officers were unable to tell who started the incident between two male roommates. One of the men left the apartment with his girlfriend while the other man stayed in the unit.
When the man returned the next day to the apartment to get his belongings, he asked police to standby in case of any problems with the roommate who remained in the apartment. Officers accompanied the man into the unit and right away noticed the living room couch had been slashed and had knives sticking out of it. A television had a screwdriver sticking out of the screen. A computer monitor had been knocked to the floor and broken. A television in a bedroom also had been damaged.
All of those items belonged to the man who had returned to the apartment. He estimated the items had cost him about $5,500.
When police asked the man who had remained at the apartment why he had damaged the couch, computer and televisions, he replied his roommate would have done the same to him. Officers noticed the man had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol. The report didn’t indicate what started the dispute between the two men.
Trio runs from stolen car
Police arrested a man and two women after they allegedly were spotted in a stolen car and attempted to flee from officers at about 5:01 p.m. on Oct. 17 in the 1200 block of Central Avenue North.
An employee at the Howard Johnson Motel called 911 about an unwanted man on the property in connection with a broken door frame and several people in a room, according to the police report.
When an officer drove into the motel parking lot, a man in a red Toyota Camry drove toward the patrol vehicle, then accelerated away through the lot. Other police units responded and the car stopped at the end of the lot. The driver and two women in the car ran away. Two other people remained in the vehicle.
Police ran the license plate of the car and discovered it had been stolen Oct. 14 from a Kent residence. Officers caught the man and two women in the nearby Carpinito Brothers parking lot.
Officers arrested a man for investigation of vehicle trespass, reckless driving and obstructing. An officer described the man as a prolific Kent auto thief. Police arrested one woman for vehicle trespass and obstructing and a second woman for felony warrants, including vehicle theft out of King County.
Hit-and-run driver caught
Police arrested a man for investigation of a hit-and-run accident after he reportedly ran from his car after a two-vehicle collision at about 6:44 p.m. on Oct. 17 at the intersection of South 243rd Street and 36th Avenue South.
An officer responded to the accident and talked to the driver briefly outside of his Dodge Dart as the man sat on a curb, according to the police report. When the officer went to talk to the other driver, the man ran away.
Police caught the man hiding behind a small bush at a nearby residence. The man had driver’s licenses in his name from Texas and New Mexico. The car had Texas plates. The man declined to answer questions from officers. Nobody was seriously injured in the accident.
Man steals van
Officers arrested a man for investigation of vehicle theft after he reportedly took a van at about 2:32 a.m. on Oct. 17 from the Ventana Apartments, 325 Ridgeview Drive.
The next day, an employee at the Red Lion Hotel, 25100 74th Ave. S., reported a suspicious van parked in the hotel lot, according to the police report. Officers found the man inside the van.
The man told police he got the car from a man known as “Big Boy” at the Safeway parking lot. He said he owed the man money so he offered to get gas for him at the Shell station near the hotel but the van overheated so he parked at the hotel.
