The Kent School District canceled classes on Tuesday, Jan. 4 after initially planning a two-hour late start.
“Due to a staffing shortage, including bus drivers and continued icy conditions on the roads, school is canceled today (Tuesday) at all KSD schools,” according to a district statement. “Sports and evening events are canceled. The admin center is open.
“We understand the timing of this decision is hard for families; however, we must prioritize the safety of our students, families and staff.”
Cold temperatures and ice caused roads to remain hazardous Tuesday morning.
”We will continue to monitor weather and staffing and work to make decisions to support student learning and safety as early as possible,” according to the statement.
In-person learning resumed Monday with a two-hour late start due to road conditions. Students had just returned from a two-week holiday break.
