(Editor’s Note: The Kent Reporter just learned of this event today from the Kent School District. We will provide additional information as soon as we can obtain it, by Friday.)
To focus on helping its students compete as global citizens, the Kent School District began a major strategic-planning process Sept. 30 by convening an entity it’s calling the District Strategic Plan Steering Committee.
The committee is comprised of 65 members and representing parents, community partners, students, businesses, Kent School District staff, college and university representatives, non-profit foundations, clergy members and the school board.
The group worked during the day-long Sept. 30 meeting to identify the needs and expectations for the district. Leading the effort is Judy Phillips, chief executive officer for Parntership for Excellence, a North Carolina-based company with experience in helping school districts develop strategic plans.
“Participation of the community in the gathering of input is a crucial factor in the development of a strong strategic plan,” a statement from a school-district press release about the event read.
The strategic-plan development process will involve five on-site days during the year, as well as time spent off-site to gather data and input from the community. The steering committee, according to information from the school district, will “go out to the community to gather input on proposed objectives for a new strategic plan.”
Information was not readily available as to when that action will take place.
When the steering committee’s work is completed, district administration will prepare the document to present to the Kent School Board for approval.
The steering committee will meet for a second time Oct. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. in the boardroom of the Kent School District Administration Center, 12033 S.E. 256th St., Kent.
