Students, scouts, families and others are encouraged to participate in the city of Kent’s seventh annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service from 1-3 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 19.
Volunteers will help collect litter along the Interurban Trail on the national holiday. People should show up at 1 p.m. at the Kent Lions Skate Park on West Smith Street near Lincoln Avenue and the Highway 167 overpass in downtown. Parking is available at the Park and Ride Lot next to the skate park.
City of Kent crews will provide trash bags and a limited number of pick sticks. Volunteers are reminded to dress warmly, wear sturdy boots or shoes, bring work gloves and a bottle of water if they wish.
Online preregistration is encouraged by Jan. 14 at KentWA.gov/ComeVolunteer. Or call 253-856-5113 before Friday, Jan. 16.
If weather conditions are snowy or icy, the event will be canceled, so check the website or call the number above for an update.
