Chinyere Naome Brent, a ninth-grader at Kent’s Technology Access Foundation Academy, recently spent a week working as a page for the Washington State Senate at the Capitol in Olympia.
Brent was one of 17 students who served as Senate pages for the 11th week of the 2017 legislative session.
“It’s been really fun,” Brent said. “I’ve met a lot of smart people, and it’s nice to see a new point of view.”

The Senate Page Program provides an opportunity for Washington students to spend a week working in the Legislature. Students are responsible for transporting documents between offices, and delivering messages and mail. Pages spend time in the Senate chamber and attend page school to learn about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process. Participants also draft their own bills and engage in a mock session.
Brent, 14, enjoys piano, ballet, and digital arts. She is the daughter of Dilcia McLenan-Brent and Wadell Brent of Auburn.
