Kent teens interested in an international experience and the opportunity to learn about another country next summer can apply to the Kent Sister Cities Cultural Exchange program.

Students will visit one of Kent’s sister cities in China, Japan or Norway through a home-hosted experience.

As a reciprocal program, the travel abroad would take place after the student’s family housed their host family’s student counterpart earlier in the summer.

• Opportunities for eight to 10-day exchanges with Japan are open to students currently in the eighth to 10th grade.

• The Norway committee is seeking students currently in the ninth to 11th grade for two-week long exchanges.

• A three-week exchange with China is open for students in the ninth to 11th grade.

Students must fill out an application, attend a family orientation meeting and be interviewed.

Interested families are encouraged to attend the Kent Sister City Association annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4 at the Council Chambers at Kent City Hall, 220 Fourth Ave. S.

The deadline for applications is Jan. 30 but students are encouraged to start the process early as references and evaluations may be necessary. Email kentsistercities@gmail.com to start the application process.
