The city of Kent will open its Severe Weather Shelter on Saturday and Sunday nights because of the predicted cold temperatures.
The shelter is at Kent Lutheran Church, 336 Second Ave S., and will be open from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29 and Sunday, Nov. 30. Check in starts at 9 p.m. and clients must vacate the shelter by 7 a.m. the next day.
Priority is given to homeless families with children who are living on the streets or in vehicles, but the shelter will also be available for single women and men.
Staff from Catholic Community Services and volunteers from Kent Lutheran operate the shelter.
Weather forecasters predict a high of 36 and low of 25 on Saturday followed by a high of 38 and low of 25 on Sunday, according to weather.com.
