City of Kent voters rejected the Sound Transit 3 measure last November by about 3,000 votes and supported Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump for president by nearly 13,000 votes.
Results in how King County’s six cities with the largest turnout voted in the general election were released on Wednesday in a King County Elections blog.
Clinton, the Democratic candidate, in her bid for president carried all six cities of Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Kent, Renton and Federal Way.
While Seattle and Bellevue voted overwhelmingly for Clinton, Republican candidate and now President-elect Trump fared better in South King County. Trump lost to Clinton by fewer than 10,000 votes in Federal Way (19,656 to 10,861).
In Kent, Clinton received 26,397 votes to 13,660 for Trump. Kent has 61,866 registered voters and 44,505 ballots were counted in the November election.
Clinton had 323,700 votes in Seattle compared to 31,663 for Trump. Clinton got 40,820 votes in Bellevue to 15,175 for Trump.
As for the Sound Transit 3 proposition, a vast majority of voters approved the measure in Seattle (257,197 to 114,227). Bellevue narrowly approved ST3 by just 162 votes. Kent, Kirkland, Renton and Federal Way all rejected the transportation measure. ST3 passed in King County with 58 percent approval and won approval overall. Parts of Snohomish and Pierce counties also voted on the measure.
In Kent, 22,245 rejected ST3 and 19,523 approved it.
Seattle led the way for the highest voter turnout, followed by Bellevue, Kirkland, Kent and Renton. Turnout was lowest in Federal Way (41,175). In all, King County had a turnout of 82 percent. This was the first time elections received and processed more than 1 million ballots, which is largely due to a growth in new voter registrations. Over the last year, King County added 88,769 new voters.
