A 47-year-old Kent woman reportedly shot and injured her landlord, and then shot herself inside her home during an hours-long incident Saturday afternoon, Oct. 28 in Kent.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office reported Oct. 31 that the woman died from a handgun wound to the head and ruled her death a suicide.
Officers responded at about 12:02 p.m. to the 27200 block of 116th Avenue SE on the East Hill in reference to a shooting, according to an Oct. 30 Kent Police news release. A 911 caller said his father had been shot.
Officers arrived and found a 54-year-old Kent man critically injured in the yard. Officers provided lifesaving medical aid and then evacuated the man and his adult son to a safe location. Paramedics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Police did not have a condition update.
The son told police that the woman inside the home shot his father, according to police. The first arriving officers heard gunfire from the home and called for additional units, including Valley SWAT.
Officers and Valley SWAT set a perimeter to contain the incident. After hours of attempting to resolve the situation with hostage negotiators, SWAT made entry into the home where they discovered that the woman was deceased. Police said no officers fired their guns and there were no other suspects.
Detectives are investigating what led up to the shooting.
